I was looking over my credit card statement and noticed this charge AP9*SHOPPINGESSENTIA-V 888-999-0564 CT was posted on 30th/June/2008.  So the first thing that I do is call the number.  But the funny thing is that it doesn't say what the company is or even what it deals with.  Because I have worked in a call center before I pressed 0 to talk to some one live and waited on hold for more than 45 minutes.  I have filed a dispute through my credit card but I am still not sure what the charge is for. If anyone could help.

Immediately dispute the charges thru your bank and close the account to prevent future fraudulent charges.  Follow up with a written dispute of the fraudulent charge sent to the dispute address indicated on your statement.

Cancel all of your debit and check cards, as they are not safe.  Never provide your checking account number to make a payment of any kind.  Use checks only to pay companies you know and trust, such as rent, mortgage, utilities, credit card payments, etc.  Use only credit cards for all retail or online purchases, since they are easier to dispute and cancel.

Same thing happened to me.  I called the number and they claim I accepted their service through Restaurant.com.  I never accept anything extra so I know I didn't.

I got the same charge and it says I accepted shopping essentials and it lists the date. i know I did not!!! It then says to cancel input your card number the charges were charged to. I had a similar situation happen several times with Chase bank account so I cancelled and switched to Wells Fargo. Didn't stop these scammers. Very Frustrating these charges aren't stopped by bank requiring your 3 digit security code.

Going over our AMX invoices for tax purposes today we found recurring monthly charges for AP9Shoppingessiantials.
They have been billing us $14.95 for the past year and I had never even heard of them.
Apparently I got a Restaurant.com restaurant coupon in March of 2008 and that is when the charges began.
I had to have my AMX credit card canceled this morning and have AMX report the charges as fraudulent.
You will get no satisfaction from the AP company who are apprently located in Norwalk, CT

i just noticed a charge of 19.95 on my bank statement and it happened once around the same time, monthly since April. i am disputing this with my bank, but definitely will close the account and get new debit cards. all it shows on the bank statement is ap9 shopping essentials, and the 1888-999-0564, not even sure what this is....based in CT.

You guys are lucky. And Shopping Essentials is getting bolder. My recent Visa statement had an SE charge of $199.95.  Chase/Visa will of course cover it and its fraud department has been informed.  I have also called attorneys general offices in Connecticut and Arizona as this scam appears now to be nationwide.  And pretty ballsy. Unfortunately for Shopping Essentials, I happen to be in law enforcement.

Studpid me just notice that AP9 Shopping Essentials has been charging me 14.95 since July, 2008, and has charged me this and last month 17.95 for something of which I have no idea.  Shame on me.  I am planning to dispute this, and at the very least cancel my credit card.

hey all, yes shopping essential is a BS program. i made a purchase on december 10 and for joining this "savings program" it said i would receive 20% off my purchase. it was a rather expensive purchase and i was looking to save some cash.
i signed up, and then followed the directions  for how to claim my 20% off, planning to cancel right after the refund. however, the supposed links to my refund on their site were nonexistent.
1 month later and 6 emails (only 1 answered) regarding how to claim my money, i got that 11.95 charge posted to my account.
i called up and told them i refused to pay and that i wanted my "membership" cancelled immediately. she said it could take three days for the charge to drop, so now im waiting to see if they stick to their word.
    what a nightmare.

Do not order any merchandise through the Serengeti catalog, the Potpourri catalog, nor Catalog Favorites.  These are three I know for sure are connected to this scam.  If you look at their websites you'll see ads for Shopping Essentials.  By ordering from the above catalogs you leave yourself wide open for these companies to "give" your Visa acct. number to Shopping Essentials who will bill you monthly.  I've filed a dispute with my credit union and filed a police report as well.  I'm OUTRAGED!!
