these fools even called my sister and left a message saying that there are 2 charges against me and I better call before 5pm that evening. I called and it is usc. The rude lady(would love to use another word) would not give an address or fax number and refused to send a letter of authorization or anything to me. Kept saying to make payment and papers will not be served, which is funny because the phone message left said there was a court case number. Ya they called and left a message on my phone and caller id said unkown caller. I sure hope this outfit is included in the bust the ftc are doing or going to do in california.

They have numerous complaints reporting that they are running a "debt collection/process server" racket.  You are reporting that they are illegally evading your attempt to validate the alleged debt, which is typical for this type of racket.  The "court case" is typically a fake, made up number.

FTC recently sued and shut down another large cluster of debt collectors running a similar racket out of southern California.

    Contact FTC.

Not clear if they are actually in "Seattle", as reported.
There was a So. Cal. collection agency shut down for fraud a year or two ago, that routinely used phone numbers from the Seattle area, to throw people off.

I received a call from a man who said he was Rob Davis from USC mediation division at P.O. Box 5757, Seattle Washington 98124 with a phone number of 877-913-2562. He claim that they purchased my debt from DJR Group where I received a payday loan some time ago and a legal claim had been filed at the prosecutors office  and would be processed that day if I did not make arrangements to pay balance owing within a week. I asked for verification of the debt, and he went over the day I obtained the loan which was the wrong date and said I take it your refusing to clear this up, so I will have the prosecutor to process me at my job or they will show up at my home.

So, I asked him why would you jump to that conclusion, I have the right to make sure this is not a scam because this has happened to me before and I will not be a victim again. He wasn't hearing me so I gave him a  0 balance prepaid debit card number  to show good faith in taking care of this obligation, because he needed to process it tommorrow for me to avoid prosecution.  I had no intention of  paying anything without verification, this gave me time to call DJR who informed me that my debt did go into collection, however, the balance was less and if the company cannot provide acknowledgement of the debt to me in writing, they are not legitimate. Therefore, I am going to contact homeland security and file a complaint against  USC.

They have 5 days to send you an FDCPA required "g" letter, notifying you of the alleged debt, and of your right to dispute it.

If you don't receive such a letter, you can sue them.

Also, it's an indication that this "debt collector" is not in compliance with FDCPA, is evading validation, and that it's a scam.

File complaints with FTC, and apparently, the Washington AG.
Ask them what Washington's licensing requirements are for debt collectors.

Complaints are consistent with running a con, faking payday loan "debts".
They may be pulling credit reports, which would disclose other loans.

Pull your credit reports and see if a recent inquiry shows up under their name, or another unrecognized name.

Seattle information may be just a mail drop. Might be spoofing location by using various mail drop addresses.  Might actually be in AZ, based on bank statement showing charges.

Bank statement points to a Chandler AZ bank account, which might require AZ corp registrations and business licenses.  Check AZ Attorney General, or Department of Corporations.

16 Feb 2012UPDATE - Called Loanpoint this morning and inquired who their collector was.  They state United Debt Holdings.  They provided me with an account number and Phone number to contact them.  I then called supposid "USC" back and told them I was filing the police report about the account opened without my knowledge and that it required the name and physical address of how it came to my attention.  "Mark Andrews" gave me PO BOX 5757 Seattle Washington.  I asked why the bank info says "USC CHANDLER AZ" and he said that it was their corporate office.  I said I needed the corporate office physical address.  He said he didn't know it off hand and put me on hold to figure it out.  He instead transfered me to someone else.  He sat in silence for 7 minutes since I stated I didn't want to be put on hold.  He claimed to be looking for the corporate offices physical address.  He started giving me a hard time about it and I said "I tried to fill this information out on my own but your company isn't searchable" he said to just type in USC.  I said I tried that and it came up as the college only.  He said "well what is it you're typing in, you need to type USC LITIGATION"  so I did that while I was on the phone and told him I got the same response. he started to get upset and said "You must not be doing it right." I said "Just give me the complete web address" he said "just search USC"  So at this point I lost my patience.  I stated that I called Loan Point USA and they informed me that their collector was United Point Holdings.  He argued that the information was a lie.  I then said that I called United Debt Holdings and they confirmed it for me.  He then started arguing that I must be a guilty person to have paid it.  I stated that I would rather prevent something from hitting my credit and then use the law to track the person down.  If it is Idenity theft, it doesn't stop things from going on my credit.  He then said "well I think you're guilty" I told him It didn't matter what he thought because he was committing fraud.  he then lost his temper and shouted "What do you want? You want a refund?!?!" I said, Yes, I want the transaction cancelled. I have already cancelled my card" and he hung up.  I tried to call back and the message I get is that the extension is on the phone.  Interestingly enough, I then started getting calls that hang up.  I saved the message that their so called "court" official left.  Anyone who gets a call from these people need to immediately request a Letter of Authorization.  This letter states that they have an agreement with the original debtor to collect on your account.  Without this, they legally cannot place any marks on your credit or demand money from you.  Once you receive this letter VIA MAIL (not email) you then send a Letter of Validation which requires the collector to show proof of your debt.  If they cannot provide you with proof of your debt IN WRITING VIA MAIL do not work with them. They are not legally able to collect money.  If any of these false collectors contact you immediately file a complain with the Attorney General and the Federal Trade Commission.  Contact the credit bureaus and put a fraud alert on your name and contact your bank to immediately put an alert on your account.  PROTECT YOURSELF.Reply !

Been receiving calls from this Rob Davis at work, requested not to call me at work, harrassing me. Would not talk to me about any other options - payday loan had already collected more than what I requested. When I stop paying finance charges the harrassment started. Loan originator would not respond - after review of records based on the amount I told Mr. Davis I wasn't paying another dime and if he wanted to file the papers to go ahead & I'd see him in court.

Check with your state Attorney General.
You may find that the payday lender wasn't even licensed in your state.

With these scum payday loan debt collectors, it's already most likely that the threats of some "lawsuit" are fake, but if the lender wasn't even legally licensed, it's even more unlikely.

Ever since I took out one $200 dollar payday loan months ago to get my car fixed as quickly as possible, I have been called by scam companies out the wazoo, I paid my loan back in full, but yet I get calls and messages saying that im being sued or lawsuits are being filed against my SS# and threats of being arrested lol. You know, since that time I have had to change my bank account number, and will most likely have to change my cell phone number, good thing I knew better than to give them my real work number, even though now that I look back on it I feel bad for my local domino's! lol.

But, of all the corny cliche fake attempts that have happened, I gotta say, these guys were good, fake case numbers, well spoken american phone operators. Did not stutter a word, they were working hard to scam that money from me lol. For record this number from USC Mediation is 1-888-361-4657, seen a big list of numbers, figured id ad one. After this scum bag leaves me a message talking about serving me at work, and at the end of the message says YOU HAVE OFFICIALLY BEEN NOTIFIED.. So I call back after hours of course when I get off work and leave a message saying "before any payment is made, im going to need verification on this company, a physical address so that I may mail documentation proving that I have paid this debt to the original lender, I also stated that a Fax number would work as well but for information purposes me and my lawyer would require both, as well as an email with a proper legal heading.

Next day I get the call back, sir, we actually arent allowed to give away our address anymore because of threats we have recieved (I start to laugh) he stops for a second and says sir I am being serious we cannot give the address, I said fine then I will need a fax number then, "we do not have a fax number that we are allowed to give you sir"  I asked him so can I just ask what state your in? he says they are based in NY.

Fakes and scammers, but alot better than the guys in india who want to tell you their an attorney but have only had 3 weeks of english lessons before being thrown out on the telephones but the scumbags who run these companies. Either way, I called the FTC and reported them, the BBB, also contacted my state attorneys office, NY state attorneys office, my states consumer protection office, and NY consumer protection office. They dont need to be calling me anymore, but I guess that is my fault for even taking out a payday loan, these companies charge you so much interest and then make more by selling your private info to other companies.

    End of rant, lol.

    Long story short.

SCAM, even as nice as they are to you (if they are nice) if you do pick up which I wouldnt, just tell them to come get some.

So, are they buying "payday loan application" lead lists, and mining them as if they were some "debt portfolio", kind of like the Indian scams?

It's more effective to contact your state Attorney General.

They may not be licensed to lend in your state, or they may have charged interest and fees beyond those allowed by state law.

    SCAM!!!! USC / USC Mediation
These people are total scam! Don't pay them a dime. Report them to the FTC & Attorney General's office. And consider getting a lawyer to sue these jerks. I have been receiving calls from these people for over a year now. Always a different number and person calling. Claim they are process servers wanting to serve me. Yeah right, since when does a process server call you?! They also claim that the are filing criminal charges, which isn't true because the only ones that can file charges is the prosecutors office and they decided which cases to proceed with. These people are a joke. They just tried to scare the crap out of people to get you to pay. They almost got me put I cancelled my debit card. A Melissa Hopkins left a voicemail on my phone at work saying that they have pending criminal charges that the original creditor wants to pursue. These people left a recorded message of their lies and are clearly breaking FDCPA laws. Looked them up on the BBB and they have an F rating and there address cant be verifed, yay that sounds legit. They also claim to be a law firm, however they are catagorized as a collection agency. Most collection agencies arent the greatest to deal with but even the legit ones follow the rules-barely. I spoke with an attorney regarding what these people are saying at they told me that this is a scam. I also called the original creditor and they stated that they are not affiliated with them at that they are not pursuing charges. If you don't pay them eventually they will go away, hopefully. I will be contacting the Sheriff Dept and the FBI as well. There is also a new Consumer Proctection Agency that you can report to them to as well. Good Luck and dont let the scare you. Remember they are not legit!
