When I finally got someone on the phone that didn't hang up within second of hearing my angry voice on the other line, they immediately tried to get my bank information. Yet, he couldn't even tell me where he worked and what card company he was calling from at first. We received about 10 calls a day in our office at various employees desks/numbers.  When my colleagues are not in the office, the call forwards to my desk. This made it pretty obvious to me that they were just calling anyone and everyone, and that the person on the other line had absolutely no idea who he was talking to - and was probably the last person I would share personal information with.

"Mark Hannah" claimed that I needed to be preapproved for a new interest rate first, before he could transfer me to his supervisor. I asked SEVERAL times, then demanded several more times, to be transferred to his supervisor or a manager. He said the company was too big and if he transferred me he would get in trouble. I laughed at that. I explained to him that no business has ever refused to transfer me to a manager or customer service representative. I asked for a corporate number and he said he "didn't have the clearance" to provide a toll free number - something that can be googled in about 2 seconds. He eventually admitted that the phone calls likely would not stop. My favorite part was when I asked what company he worked for the final time, he replied "Card Member Services". I replied, that is a department, not a company. He then finally said, Visa and Mastercard.

Here were all the numbers I received calls from:

508-861-8010
508-861-3823
508-861-5749
508-861-1690
508-861-5749

I pretty much don't pick up any calls that start with "508-861" now. It's sad that some people would fall for this fraudulent attack, but even sadder that this is how some people spend their day.

On a personal level, this kind of malicious attack bothers me to my core. If anyone knows how to report this in a different way, other than posting on online boards, let me know! Good luck!

I too recieved a terrible vulgar call in NJ from an awful filth-mouthed Indian man at Cardmember Services. The man kept calling me sir and I corrected him several times even explaining I have a cold, upon stating that he said in a shifty accent "then open p(word for lady organ) and f*** self!" He called from 732-458-4515 the caller I.D. said PT PLSNT BCH NJ, the 458 is not the exchange for that town, it is the next one over. Do not answer calls from (732) 458-**** that say towns other than Brick Township or the name of someone you know from there.

    How it typically works..
Since over half of American residents are on the Do Not Call list, the calls typically violate TCPA, so they run the calls through some out of country robocaller with changing numbers (Costa Rica was one location).  When they get a live victim, the call is transferred to a call center, which might be overseas, or even in the US (typically Florida or Georgia).
They pretend to be with "VISA" or "MasterCard", or "your bank" (name a big one), and promise that they can "lower your interest rates", for a fee of course.  They take the fee (probably $800 or more), then string you along with promises that they're "contacting your banks to lower your interest rates" until they run out the 60 day bank dispute clock on their charge.
