We received a call from the same person twice. The first a few days before Christmas and the other 3 days ago. He had a very heavy accent and I heard a lot of noise in the background on the 2 voice mails. He said that there are charges against me and if I don't call back, I will have to appear in court. He made comments like, "This is a legal mess for you", "Take this in stride" and "Help us to help you". I couldn't help but laugh at those lines. The recent voice mail came from a 202 DC #, but we have also received quite a few calls from this type of # as well as others and they hang up if we don't answer. After many calls of us not answering, I guess these characters decide they are going to leave a voice mail. Two years ago, my husband answered and he said that we illegally filed our taxes and if we don't pay and get this straightened out in 1 hour, someone would be showing up to arrest us. We called the police and they confirmed that it was a scam. The IRS and Legal Affairs don't do business that way over the phone.

    IRS sends letters.
You have a right to reply, have a hearing, have representation.
They don't call on the phone and demand payment "in 1 hour".
    It's called due process.
