Country: United States
Got a message from This company called Goldman & associates claiming that they were going to have me served or arrested on my job if I didn't pay them that day.  They called from 414-882-2174.  They said It was about a payday loan they said I took out in 2006.  The told me my ss#, name of a bank I had years ago and names of people I know.  I asked them for and address and phone number to the payday loan company and they refused.  They said they are paperless.  So I asked for goldman and Associstes address and they still refused.  They said if I paid they would send me an email with payment arrangements and all the information about the payday loan and addresses.  They said they only take credit or prepaid debit cards.  I was so scared that I paid $200 and they sent me an email that came from an online signature company called Docu sign for me to sign.  With the name CT Financial as the company that processed my payment.  There were several phone numbers through out the email as if they were for the payday company and Goldman and Associates as well as for CT Financial.  But when I called each different number they all are answered by Goldman and Associates.  Now I've realized that they have several numbers they are using.  I'm worried that because I signed that email signature can they have me arrested or summoned if I don't pay them anymore money or have obligated or excepted responsibility to them?  I have since filed a police report and filed a complaint with the FTC, The SC Attorney Generals office as well as with the BBB.

Also in the email sent they never included any information like addresses or phone numbers to either company or anything that proves there was ever a loan.

I got a call from the same company.  Here is what I found out in my research about debt collectors:
Under the Fair Debt Collection Act, a collector must send a written statement that indicates how much money is owed within five days of first contacting a customer. By law, collection agencies cannot threaten arrest or harm or pretend to be some kind of legal enforcement officer or agency.

For a full list of guidelines about what is allowed consult the Federal Trade Commission's website. Consumers can also file complaints with the commission or state attorneys general if they have been illegally pursued.

Most of these companies doing this have purchased VERY OLD debt for pennies on the dollar.  Below is a web site to check out the statute of limitations for your state.  If it has passed they can legally do NOTHING no matter what they say they can do even if you really do owe the debt!

            Good Afternoon,

I been receiving the same call over and again from this 804-420-4838 they told me my bill was $500 but I could settle today for half that amount to keep from being prosecuted I told her I would wait on my court date so she said you know they are going to charge you $1500 in court fees so after all of this I still have been getting a call everyday but I refused to give them any money because I know that I did not receive a payday loan and not pay them back or didn't receive one in that amount at all. So if you get this it is a scam!!!

Thank God I'm reading these response first. I got a call a few times from these idiots and when I called them it's like its only a handful of them in the office. Wow what a coincidence... They wanted to know my last 4 digits of my social then when I refused They said ok ma'am good luck in life. Like its a joke to be messing with people's lives. I'm definitely perusing on filling numerous complaints on this so called company.

I keep getting messages from these people saying I was going to get served in my county that I live in. I don’t answer anymore. I told them the first time that I never had a bank acct where they said I had one. I told them to send me proof it was my loan. Never received anything. I went to the police over a year ago and made a report of identity theft.

Identity theft victim replies to Fed up with scams
I got a phone call from this same company last Friday
Stated that I took a loan in 2012 for $300, I told the guy named Mike that it wasn't me, I was a victim, I had proof to prove, he said he believed me. I asked him to give me his email address so I could forward to him my proof but he never gave it to me. I called him back again on Tuesday but there was another lady named Danielle Greenman who spoke to me in a very loud voice, threatened me if I didn't pay today (8/2/17) I will be turned into Harris county court & later to DA
I was so scared but still told her I was innocent, if I paid her then I admitted that I was guilty; she then persuaded me that I would be in a lot of troubles if I have to go to court with the attorney fee it would be way more than if I would pay her one time fee $465 for the case to be closed. I had no choice but pay her that amount but she sent me an invoice to make me sign electronically (of course with her help guiding me through the whole process), I was misrepresenting by their threats because the said they were from
Goldman & associates law firm, in fact they were a collection companies which they lied to me .
Be aware of these scammers everyone !!!!

Typical profile for a fraudulent "debt collection" shakedown racket.

If they have only information, they might have gotten it if you ever applied online for some payday loan, even if you never got it.  Some of those sites are fake, and others are so sleazy they sell information even to scammers.

Another possibility is if they have set themselves up as a "collection agency", and gotten access to credit reports and skip-tracing services.  They could be getting your old account information from your own credit report, maybe from Experian, and your friends, neighbors, and relatives from a skip-tracing service like Accurint.

Both have shown up in investigations of other fraudulent collection agencies ;pulling shakedown scams.

You might pull your credit reports to see if there is a recent inquiry from some unrecognized company.  Start with Experian, since they have shown up most often in similar complaints.

If you have been deceived, and defrauded by being conned into paying them, you can get your money back by disputing the charges through your bank.  Doesn't matter that you signed for it, if they deceived you into paying.  Your bank can yank the money back if you dispute promptly., under FRB Reg. E or FCBA. Be sure to block your card number or have your bank shut down your account to prevent further fraud and theft.

And no, you aren't defrauding them, although you can expect they will attempt to convince you you are a criminal.
You got nothing of value by paying them, and you kept nothing of theirs by yanking your money back.

Similar complaints of threatening phone calls against that phone number, just started yesterday.
        https://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/4148822174

A short or nonexistent complaint history is typical of fraudulent shakedown scams.
Real collection agencies typically have months to years of complaints.

It's also common for these scams to invent phony names to sound like a "law firm", often trying to sound like a "Jewish law firm".  It's all an act.

Yes, this company just called me as well. 414-882-2174.  Saying their office is located in VA, clearly they have a 414 number.  I goggled the law firm Goldman and Ass. not much there.  He refused to give me the address to the firm.  I asked why the firm did not have a VA number, he became hostel with me, talking over me. Saying forget about the arrangements for the pay, and I will just put the paperwork through to the courts.. and said that I would just have to come to court, because it seems like I was not trying to pay this debt.  I told him I was trying to pay this debt off, as I did take out pay day loans in the past, but needed more information on this company particularly.  It was just from so long ago when I took this debt out, why call me now??  and I don't like how rude we was, and didn't want to share info on the company with me.  I really was trying to pay them guys! I do not want to go to court but I want to pay a legit company you know!? I called the county where I used to lived, where they said I took the loan out from, to talk with them. They advised me to look on my credit report, and call the bank I had at the time to see if indeed monies from that Pay day loan company was deposited into may account.  The "law firm" says the company was called Quick Pay, in South Carolina, but when I goggled it I found nothing really.  I am confused and worried, as I HAVE taken out pay day loans in the past, and I know I still have an outstanding debt to a pay day loan company from like 3 yrs ago.. But this just seems crazy to me why he was reluctant to give info on the company. And making it seem as if I was not trying to pay them when I clearly was! I CALLED THEM BACK ! .. to talk about why THEY CALLED ME ,.   They did have my last 4(ssn) pervious address .. I no longer live there, they knew who I banked with at the time, and they even knew one of my references names I gave when filling the application out for the pay day loan place.  Just don't understand WHY I could not find much in Google on Quick Pay .. or this so called law firm.  Only thing is .. what if they ARE legit and they do issue a warrant out for my arrest. IDK guys. Just keep all documents, and if we do have to take this to court, pay the bill, as we are pay day loan borrows and make sure it's your debt, but also explain the suspicious behavior that gave us the red flag to not pay that company.  Let the judge decided. But yes, if you pay them and it ends up being a scam, your bank can help you get your money back.  Prayers UP & fingers CROSSED.

I called the Wisconsin Atty General to file a complaint.
Don't panick! And if they call again give them your police dept address, and tell them they can serve U there!

      I hope this helps :)
