In all my 60 years of travel, I have never had  a bad experience as with Europcar in Santiago, Chile. Picked  up downtown and returned to the airport, the car was devoid of any return instructions with routing nor did it have a user's manual. But worst of all, the battery went dead on three occasions, once on a remote island where I depended on the locals to help charge the battery. On the third occcasion, I contacted a mechanic in Fruitillar, who suggested that I contact the eueopcar people  in Puerto Montt, some 100 miles south. I indicated that I did. not have the time. possibly waiting for  an  entire day for their possible arrival. I then suggested that I buy a new battery.. The medhanic looked at the existing battery. and said that it was an antiquated  type for which he had no replacement.

I have contacted the company, but they say that there have been no problems with the car aince, and, besides, I should have contacted them for a replacement vehicle while in the wilds of Chile.

Anyone renting a car from this company might be advised to check for the three items me mentioned above. Europcar will never have my future business, that is for sure!
