I hired a vehicle through Europcar, Mackay Airport Qld with the intention of dropping the vehicle off at Townsville Airport four days later at which time the Rental Agreement confirmed costs I had previously been quoted for the hire of the vehicle through Vroom Vroom namely $306.00. There was no drop off fee involved (have this in writing Vroom Vroom quote and Europcar Rental Agreement, also read the fine print). I used the car for three days, 11 hours.42 minutes not four days. The car was not damaged and returned with a full tank of fuel. When I received the invoice twenty-four hours after the returning the vehicle $752.15 had been charged to my credit card.
I contacted Europcar Victorian head office and told by customer service employee that as I had returned the car early (13 hours early at 6.45pm at night - handed the keys to an employee at Townsville Airport after parking the vehicle in a designated, secure area with other Europcar hire vehicles). I had to pay a drop off fee and associated costs (works out to more than $400 than quoted amount). Europcar could have charged me the four day hire fee (car was due back 7.42am next morning, but instead penalised me more than double the original cost of the hire.
I had previously hired vehicles from this organisation on an approximate monthly basis for some years, not any more.
