eats clothes

I bought a new whirlpool elite a year ago and have had nothing but problems. The drain has clogged three times and it's "eaten"  at least a dozen articles of clothing. I don't even want to use it anymore!  The repairman just said " it happens sometimes".  Tell that to my wallet when I'm constantly replacing clothes!
