This is probably just one more letter complaining about unwarranted charges
by Chase. I recently opened an account, and the first statement received (2 months late I must add) already had fees and penalties added.

Chase has a policy to reverse only one late fee, no matter what the situation is. I paid all legitimate charges and took issue with the other unwarranted late fees and penalties, to no avail! We may have to go to court, and my credit may suffer (so they threatened), but I will not cave in to their blackmail.

One is apparently totally helpless with Chase, and I would encourage some kind of consumer action to get their attention, and some more flexibility. I have canceled the card with the dispute, and will cancel all my other Chase cards as soon as the automated payment on them can be shifted elsewhere (a real bother, but it will be done), but I realize this is just a token expression of my anger.

I am encouraging others to do the same and to write to Chase to tell them why you are doing it. How many others are tired to be abused by the big credit card companies? So, I wonder if we can organize a mass revolt against Chase. Any other aggrieved customer who would like to help me? Cancel your cards. Write to Chase to tell them why you are doing it. Get your friends to do the same.

I work for Chase Credit cards. What people comment about how Chase is ripping them off is not the entirely the whole story Remember there are two sides to every story.  Before an APR is raised due to something being reported to the credit reports, we do provide the card member a letter 60 days in advance (we are only required 45 days by law) letting the card member know the reason why we are raising the APR and they have the option to close the account down at that time to preserve the APR or except the change in terms.

Most card members either choose to ignore the letter or they just forget to call and just say they never got a letter The only time we don't send a letter is when the customer is late and that is due to the fact that is stated in the card member agreement that if a payment comes in late then we reserved the right to rise the APR.

Again customers want a credit card so bad that they don't ever read the terms of agreement before signing their name Another thing not receiving a statement, being on vacation, or someone else was to pay the bill is no excuse for not making a payment on time. We do not have to waive fees we do that as a courtesy The last thing I have to say is when you call you credit card companies or any company you do business with NEVER treat them with disrespect by yelling at them, demanding things, or threading them! They are only there to help you. They do not make the rules Remember the old saying "You catch more Beeswith honey than you do with salt!"

    John,

Those are all great excuses, and they may even match many of the cases you deal with, but in this case you worked hard to get a new customer, which you then immediately lost due to your own mishandling in setting up the account, billing late, and failing to correct.  It is doubtful you will ever do business with this consumer again, not due to any intent by the customer to not pay you on time, but due to your own failings.

I recently went through a frustrating time with Chase and their deceptive notification/protection notices. Their customer service representatives will tell you different statements as to how their over limit reporting on your credit report will be handled. I was told by the first representative that if I have the over limit feature disengaged, then I do not have to worry about going over limit. Then I later see on my credit report that they are reporting my account as over limit. I call back again and the gentleman tells me, oh your account did not have this feature disengaged. I tell him, yes It should be, and here is who I talked to and he says that he will put a message through to the other person to be more careful and in the mean time he tells me to contact his credit bureau corrections department with a letter sent registered, I included in the letter to listen to their recording of our conversation and see what we talked about. The letter that I get back is a canned response stating that they take things like these very seriously and that they have reviewed the file but there is nothing that they can do. I call back again and they tell me that I should try writing them again ( a reoccurring theme with these representatives) I then get a new alert from the credit card saying that my balance is getting close to its limit so I send in the payment plus a principle payment the first day they have available on their system. I go on my way thinking that everything is fine and then I get a notice from my credit monitoring system that I have a negative posting on my credit report and it is CHASE CREDIT CARD. I call back over there and I speak to a supervisor and she tells me how this might have happened and then at the end of it all she says you can write to our Credit Bureau Corrections Department. I tell her that this is the last thing that I will have to do with Chase and I closed the account. A WORD OF WARNING, they notifications and rules are a joke, Chase does not care about you or your business. If you have had a bad experience with Chase I encourage you to write your state's Senate and House representative and share your experiences with them, I have found that they are looking for these kinds of issues. Good luck to you all.

John, you area sadly mistaken or simply a liar protecting Chase's grossly unethical, greedy practices which are protected by a congress paid for by their lobbying fees.  I'm a 13yr card customer in very good standing and I received a notice of rate/fee hikes 2 wks before their deadline for action to cancel.  I ignored no earlier notice since one never arrived. I called and was told Chase needed to raise their fees/rates to protect themselves in these troubling days.  What a crock of bull!  They're apparently raising all rates approx 65% across the board.  With all money rates at historic lows this is unconscionable. And if they were concerned about risk they'd stratify by relative customer risk.  I will do my best to foment revolt of these practices.

I will try to make this story short and sweet...Our company accidentally sent Chase a check made out to Joes Construction Company for $39,000.  Chase cashed the check.  We asked for the money back from Chase...it took 6 months to get our money back.  Of course they first gave us a credit on our credit card...I DON'T THINK SO!!!  Then finally with the threat of sueing them, they sent us a check from Chase.  Did I mention that during this time, Chase kept sending us notices that our account was late and they tried to raise our interest rate to boot!  This was unbelievable.  Yes, we did close our account after the check from Chase cleared our bank.
