If you research 'Europcar horror stories' you get such a universal barrage of fraud citations I'm embarrassed to have actually hired a car from them. The lies begin on their website and carry into the picking up (pricing shock) and returning a car (magical scratches). I just got back from a week long trip to the UK. If you are as gullible as I was you might think you're getting a deal. The "advertised rate" for a week was 90GBP ($140 US) but ended up being 290GBP ($450 US). First they hit you with a 24GBP per day insurance charge (we don't accept any third party insurers) and finish you off with the classic scratch on the bumper trick for a 175GBP repair hit. Yes, I did get this reduced somewhat by threatening to "wait for the police to come" but it took 1.5 hours of 'debate' both ends of the transaction. Given the universal disgust with this firm you have to be amazed that they are still in business. I guess it's suckers like me that keep them afloat. I don't imagine they have any branches in China or any Muslim states.
