Lid Cracked

Purchased a Whirlpool Cabrio Washer and the frame of the tempered glass lid cracked causing the lid not to close completely.  It is only a matter of time where it will be to the point of not closing at all.  I contacted Whirlpool who wants $220 plus shipping for the part.  The service call would be an additional $130 to install.  Essentially almost the price of the new washer. After searching the internet, it appears that this is an issue with this line of washers, but Whirlpool rep I spoke with has no record of customer complaints about the issue.  I requested a courtesy replacement and they refused.
They have certainly made my choice of products clear....  it will be LG or Samsung...
