Magazine telemarketer, possibly trying to sell around the publisher. Appear to be falsely claiming they are representing various magazines, using a pitch that either they can get you a discount, or that the rate is about to go up. Various deceptive representations.
"sway - 6 Feb 2009 Have received numerous calls from this number over a week or so, and they never left a message. Came through as "Private," with number listed on Caller ID. Finally answered, and person said they were from Guideposts magazine checking if we were receiving the magazine. (We let our subscription run out and didn't renew.) So it seemed like it COULD be a legit call. Caller ID: Private caller Caller: They said from "Guideposts" magazine"
"Donna - 11 Apr 2009 This is probably NOT a message from Guideposts as they would have no reason to use "Private". My subscription to Guideposts automatically renews, so when I received a call from someone wanting me to renew, I said no thanks and called Guideposts directly and learned that the call was NOT from Guideposts nor was the call made on their behalf. It's been awhile and it may have been a different number, but all of my dealings with Guideposts are on the up and up and they have never called for subscriptions and/or renewals."
"ANSWER - 27 Feb 2009 I think this is a scam. they just called me and stated that they are from US MAGAZINE and wanted to drop my subsription price. they wanted my credit/check info over the phone. as soon as i stated that i WOULDN'T give that information over the phone, THEY HUNG UP RIGHT AWAY. they stated they are located in denver, co Caller Type: Telemarketer"

It is common for shady telemarketers that may be engaging in Do Not Call violations to list their numbers under what appear to be personal residences, or to use spoofed caller id information, in order to hide the origin of the calls and reduce the chances of regulatory action.

knock it off
I have been receiving calls from 303-238-5792 for a couple of days now about six or eight times a day. They never leave a message but continue to call. I am getting really tired of these calls, and will report them using the fcc form 1088 referenced above.

I had a very rude girl call from the 303-238-5792 number claiming I was receiving Rolling Stone..which I am not. She said "well sure you are" blah blah. I called the number someone listed 303-202-2970 and complained and asked to be taken off their call list. The woman I spoke to said you need to call the 2970 number to be removed off the call list.
