My son got caught 'attempting" to take two shirts from Urban outfitter's - He never left the store and put the shirts back. he is 20. they pulled him in the office, asked him to sign a form stating he would not return to the store for three years or he would be charged with tresspassing. However, a collection agency has contacted him and told him to pay $625.00 or they would pursue a "Civil" case against him. He paid $140 before we even knew about this situation. Now reading blogs, appartantly this Palmerpay.com collection agency bullies by threatening them with suits to pay. They have no proof & he did not do anything wrong. What can we do to get back his $$

I was with a friend who stole from H&M, she stole things for me too. We got caught & we were told we could be sued by the company. Recently I received a letter from Palmer, Reifler & Associates saying I must pay a settlement of 300 dollars within 20 days or I could be sued for civil damages claim but my friend never received a letter & she was technically the one stealing. I seen online that this is an extortion scam, should I pay?

I recently got a letter from them, today actually... I was an employee who would slip a few extra things in a friends bag and eventually got caught. Thankfully they didnt send me to jail. so part of me doesnt mind paying the 1,975.50 but then... what if I dont pay? will they really press charges? will they file a lawsuit against me years down the road? will it go onto my credit report? who hasnt paid?!?!

    yet another victim
2 years ago my fourteen year old daughter and I were in Urban Outfitters. She was on the other side of the store looking around. An employee approached me saying she had seen my daughter put merchandise in her pocket.  My daughter said she had put it in her pocket, but she was still in the store. We were told she couldn't come back to the store for 3 years and had to sign a paper with name and address or the police would be called. Thinking it could get a lit worse, I opted for the first choice. Sure no problem I wouldn't be coming back to your store ever anyway. 6 weeks later got a letter from Palmer demanding $350 or a lawsuit.Stupidly I paid without checking it out enough. She has never been accused like that anywhere else. Yes it's possible she was intending to steal, but without exiting the store, nothing was stolen yet. It seems like extortion to me. Especially now that I'm reading all these others experiences. Don't pay if it happens to you

Scam scam scam is all I can say. They call all hours of the day and night. I reported them to the FCC and they can not even reach the company. I am even on the do not call list registry.

I worked for a retail company and found a gift card worth $50. Instead of turning it in i kept it. My company found out and fired me, then made me pay back the $50 which was to be mailed to Palmer Reifler & Associates. Two days later i mailed the $50 check. 1-2 weeks later the check was cashed. Now two whole months later I'm getting calls and a letter stating that I need to pay them $200 for the investigation? This is not what I had agreed on nor did anyone tell me this. If I ignore these phone calls and letters will they take me to court? I can't see any wise company taking someone to court for something so benign. Over $200?
