I travelled to Belfast with my daughter recently for Niece’s birthday and planned parents graveside visit. I hired a vehicle from Europcar on-line in advance. I had provided all my license details prior to accommodate speedy pick up and everything went smooth – to the point I would have used services again. That is until, on the 12th April, I received hastily written letter saying there was damage to the car I had rented and they had taken a further £207 (£180+£27 admin) for '75-150mm scratches'
As the offices were closed I contacted Europcar the following morning to state there must have been error their part because the vehicle was parked at a private address and I was sure no damage occurred whilst in my care. After chasing for several days I was advised I could complain to the BVRLA which I did. I have since been advised that there is no further route to take bar going to Court. I sought photographic evidence of the damage that was supposedly done whilst I had the car but, to my astonishment, this is not captured nor does it appear to be a legal requirement to photograph such.
So, in effect they electronically remove funds from my account, carried out a ‘repair’ and then I receive letter to advise me of deductions. In this day and age of British Justice – something stinks!
