Recently I have been getting phone calls from MAS Collection Services asking for someone else.  This has been going on for about two weeks now.

The phone number according to my caller ID is (800) 749-7710.  I am being constantly pestered by MAS Collection Services about someone else's debt.  I am trying to get their contact info so that I can send MAS Collection Services a letter demanding that MAS Collection Services cease and desist pursuant to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.  I did a Google search for the phone number but I am not getting anywhere.

This mention shows up back in 2007, same company, same number.

Reply in thread above suggests they are MAF Collection, and that the number "800-749-7710" was found by Google to be on their webpage back in 2007.

www.mafcollection.com is still a valid website.  "800-749-7710" doesn't show up there, but their fax number "800-749-7707" does, and it appears to be close, possibly indicating a block of 800 numbers for a PBX.

Here is their current contact information from their website.

Send your letter certified return receipt requested, so you have proof of their receipt.  Include in your letter that you have been receiving repeated calls for <whoever it is>, that you do not know this person and they cannot be reached at your number, that you have told their employee to stop calling you but the calls have continued, and that in accordance with FDCPA you are requesting that they cease contacting and harassing you.

If you have any further problems, file a complaint with FTC, and contact your state Attorney General, and the Florida Attorney General.

You can also sue, and there are attorneys who may take such cases on contingency, since under FDCPA if you win, the court can also award attorney fees.

I found out another address for MAS Collection Services, and it is a Concord, CA address.  Would that be their operations center, as I sent the cease and desist letter to that address.

Should I also send a copy of the letter to their Tampa office as well?

The phone number links to the Tampa location, as discussed above.  Send any letters certified return receipt requested to the Tampa address, filing any complaints for phone harassment with the Florida Attorney General.

The Concord CA address might be a mail drop for payments, if it is related.

They appear to be using MAS and MAF interchangeably.  They have a pattern of complaints for phone harassment of the wrong parties, ignoring requests to stop calling.

My daughter has been getting calls from the same number for someone else.  She got a "live" person once, and told them that she just got the phone number, and the person said they'd stop calling.  They haven't.  They usually call on weekends, and it's always a computer message.  I'm filing a complaint with the FL Attorney Generals office.  I've tried calling the number listed for MAS or MAF, and even when it's during "business hours" I just get the recording saying to call back during their business hours.  This is insane.

    See advice above.

FDCPA is a federal law that places restrictions on what debt collectors are allowed to do, and what they are prohibited from doing.  Go to the www.ftc.gov site, and read it.

This number called my phone and it was an automated message telling me to “Stand by for an important message”. I hung up. They called right back and now there was a live person on the phone asking for me by name. When I said I was her, they asked me to confirm my address. I said “Confirm my address? I don’t even know who this is!” The lady said “So, are you asking who I am?” I said “Yes.” She mumbled some collection agency name. I told her I didn’t owe anyone money and she tried again to get me to confirm my address. When I refused until she told me what debt I owed, she hung up. SCAM! Don’t give these people any money and block their number and complain about them online!

TOTAL SCAM!!!!   I DO NOT owe what they say I do. As a matter of fact, I've never been to or heard of the medical "radiologist" they claim I owe.  Nor have I been to a hospital AT ALL in the last 7-8 years.  But, they can take my payment over the phone "right now".   Told R them to send it, but wouldn't  verify my address.  Told em if they have my bill, then surely they have my address.  They hung up and never got bill in the mail.  But I STILL get calls from them.  Started logging when they call and told them I'd sue them for harassment if it continues.....
