tearing up clothes

We purchased a Whrilpool washing machine in July of 2010.  About a month ago we started noticing holes in some of our clothes.  At first we thought we had just overloading the washing machine, but after several loads where we have  been incredibly careful about how we load the washing machine we are still having the same issue.  Our clothes are getting shredded by our washing machine, and at this point both my wife and I have lost hundreds of dollars in destroyed clothing.  I had always thought Whrilpool was a top-notch brand when it came to appliances, but after seeing the long list of the same complaint I wish we would have never bought this garbage.
