On November 18th, 2011 I was send an email informing me the Direct Buy showroom associated with my membership was closing on 11/23/11, less than one year from signing a membership agreement.  I was informed to contact their membership department transfer my membership to another location.  The closest showroom was located 60 miles from my home. This makes my membership virtually useless.  The travel costs alone will offset any savings offered by the company.  A number of attempts were made to contact the company without success.  They set up shop, take your money then move out of town.

We joined Directbuy mistakenly. We went to a direct buy store at Syracuse, NY on April 29, 2010. and received high pressure sale presentation, they promise us to save money at least 20% to 30%, after pay very high up-front fee $5400. We were mislead by their presentation and joined the club. Afterward, I checked the Internet and found numerous complaints, almost all negative. so we went to the store 3 days later and requested refund. Owner refused and tell us all Internet complaints are fake and made from retail stores.  I made my first shopping list and found the price from the direct buy are higher than Internet price, even not including high shipping and handling cost.  So we requested the refund within 3 and 7 business days, the local owner refused, even after I contacted BBB and unfortunately BBB did not helped us at all.

Afterward, when I prepared my home improvement, I ALWAYS checked directbuy website and compared to the local deal, I found after adding the shipping and handling fee, the total cost from Directbuy are all higher than the local store since they offered free shipping and handling. I have not use any directbuy purchases at all after I paid $5400 member fee becuase Directbuy really donot save any although they claimed , even I had purchased over $20,000 for home improvement from local stores, like Homedepot and Lowes.

Now the Syracuse directbuy store closed in Nov 20011, for obvious above reasons! The nearest  Directbuy store is over 3 hours round trip from my home.  I have not use any of their service even I paid 5k membership fee. WHAT SHOULD WE DO? Please HELP!

Use the club! The savings are real on furniture, carpeting and home improvement. We saved almost $4000 on kit hen cabinets that we priced out at Lowes. We are currently remodeling and dealing with the club's home office and so far on shower, toilet, plumbing fixtures, knobs, lighting and vanity we'll save almost $2500. Not having a showroom SUCKS. I've been a member for 20 years and this is the second time the club closed in Syracuse. Last time you could put your membership on hold (no payments on membership)
and you could still order on line. That is no longer an option. A few years ago home office decided to take that option off the table and now expect members to keep paying tHeir membership whether there is a club in Syracuse or not. Total bs! Use the club make sure your comparing apples to apples when comparison shopping. Don't expect saving on all things especially small ticket items but still use club pricing to know if your getting a good deal. Retail is for suckers. In 20 years we've saved over $30,000
And I always comparison shopped on everything I've ever purchased. the concept is good buying a franchise is bad. Good luck and if it makes you feel better call home office and [***]!

I am receiving hundreds of e-mails daily from this horrible company.  It is somehow geting through my spam filters and there is no way of contacting this company via phone to stop their e-mail campaign.  Based on my limited experience, and the difficulty in communications, I would run as far away as I could from anything this company has to offer.  I would bet the only thing they do right is collect the membership fee.

Chris is right. Our membership cost $4500 at Syracuse in 2007. We had a big project building a home and saved over$ 40,000 over a two year period. It's not for everyone. Every detail from assembling plumbing fixtures from catalogs to choosing and installing every knob, drawer pull, door hardware , ceiling fan, light fixture was part of the "sweat" equity. We had to pick up and haul home a 1200 lb refrigerator, a huge jacuzzi, and all the floor tiles. The kitchen cabinets were delivered by the factory. All the folks we dealt with we're outstanding in their ordering knowledge. "That faucet you're ordering doesn't have a shut off. Would you like to order the shutoff." Chris, the kitchen planner, was especially helpful. I priced the kitchen at a local home furnishing company. The difference for nearly identical everything was $22,000. I did use a contractor to mount the cabinets for $1,200, then had to re-locate the upper cabinets because they were 3"too low. Had I used the home improvement co., that would have being a freebie.
I think the SYR store never reached critical mass to sustain itself. Yes, they used high pressure sales tactics which I didn't like, but the staff there that I dealt with was super. We dropped our membership because we were finished with the big project for which we joined.
