I receive a negative inquiry on my credit report from AFNI, INC for an original creditor Verizon.  I have never had an account with Verizon.  This company AFNI has made my life and credit score pure hell.  This negative collection reporting has taken my credit score from 701 (good) to 573 (very poor) score rating.  I am in the process of buying a house and I just keep receiving denials about my credit having a collection debt, which I knew this was not true.  So I order my credit report to find out this company AFNI had put a collection of a bill for 1,846 from original creditor Verizon. I alert all 3 Credit Bureau of this company AFNI, reporting a delinquent account to my credit. Again I do not have an account with this company and further more I do not even own a cell phone or home phone number in my living area they do not even offer Verizon service. I spoke with a representative name Charlene with AFNI, per representative this was a bill in Lynchburg, VA for a phone number in 1994 I have not live at the address they provided nor had a phone number of 804 for Lynchburg VA.  Lynchburg VA area code has been 434 for the past 10 years.  When speaking to the representative she stated that Verizon brought out some company with this bill of 1,846.00 and they had the account open in January 2006 and recently reported the collection to the credit bureaus July 2007.   Never once I had any type of collection nor any reporting to the bureaus about having any thing from Verizon or AFNI it all of sudden pop up on credit report; no statements, no itemized bill or nothing was sent to me.  Speaking to about 10 representative of Verizon Wireless and Verizon as well as the fraud department they could not provide anything for the account number or my social security number.  This company AFNI has made my life miserable as well as ruin my credit.  The problem with Verizon they are allowing this company to use their name and to continue to practice fraudulent tactics using there company name.  I have spent money and time just to clear my name and seem like I am not getting anywhere.   Per Charlene she said the company take this information from a public record but would not provide me with the company that have such public record she stated it's only for collections agency.  This is a complete fraud to consumers and ruining people credit reports and scores.  Never once have I had a debt reported to the credit bureau in reference to any type of bill for Verizon or AFNI.  Please Complaints.com let the publics know what this company is doing to people lives.

Thank You

Also contact your own state Attorney General.  You might as well find out what you are paying your taxes for.

Be aware that when you contact Verizon's customer service, you may actually be speaking with an employee of AFNI.  Verizon outsources both customer service and customer account collection to AFNI.

If you are dealing with AFNI attempting collection on an account that is not yours, you may do better to contact Verizon's fraud department.

I worked for Verizon for 18 years and the payroll department stole my identity. Going to the attorney general, the district attorney the police or anyone else is futile. Verizon is DOD and all of these entities did nothing for me even after I gave them documented proof complete with a W2 for 2007 when I quit in 2006 stating that they were still paying me. They are a government agency and like I said, I connected them to the Department of Defense. Complaining or taking them to court will do nothing. They are a New World order corporation. If no one is going to do anything about Verizon's knowledge and involvement with the towers coming down before hand, trust me they will do nothing about the blatant identity theft.

About 20% of id theft is employer related, often resulting from access to employee information required to be provided for payroll and tax purposes.

just someone who is sick of it
i just recieved a letter from these people stating i owed $196.00 and the bill was verizon ca, and they said if i pay now the amount of $25.00 that would clear my debt, that sounds like a great deal, actually to great i got weird about it, so my wife got on line and went to afni scams and bamm all this [***] came out with all these scams. so whatever you do dont pay, the internet is great but also sucks because these people get our information and try to screw us. just like 4 months ago i get a phone call from some law investigating agency stating i owed $2,0000 for something i had no idea about , they sounded middle eastern, and sais if i did not pay them there money the next day i would be going to jail, i got on the the internet and found out it was a scam so becareful my friends times are tough people are doing whatever they can to screw us and take what little money we have, i say dont pay anyone if you have even the slightest doubt about the problem, dont let them scare you NO ONE CAN THREATEN YOU ABOUT GETTING MONEY OUT OF YOU NO ONE .

I live in washington state and recently recieved a letter from afni demanding the payment of $246.67 (or a SPECIAL discounted amount of $197.34). I make several payments to other agencies every month and am very aware of my debts. I was struggling to figure out what exactly I could have "forgotten" about in that amount. When I called afni they asked to verify the last two digits of my social number. I have never been asked for just the last "two" numbers, and then I proceed to explain to her that the last name on the letter they is one letter off of my four letter last name.(They replaced the F with an S). She told me it must be a typo. The town I live in is also part of a two -part street name. She insisted I had lived on and obtained either: cable, internet, or home phone service at through verizon. I explained that I have never lived on this road and that the last name was incorrect and finally that I had never even had anykind of service other then a pre-paid cell phone through verizon. She immediatly changed her tone with me and asked if I was saying I was a victom of identity theft...I said I had no idea and proceeded to ask for the date of this supposed bill..She then told me it was March of 2008. I explained I was in a confined area and no possibilities of being able to aquire a bill from anyone and could provide documentation. She then gave me verizons number which I called and they said they had nothing with my name or social or any record of any bill being sent to collections. I asked what i should do and they told me if I cant supply more info then there is nothing I can do?? So do I respond to the letter from afni or what??? The afni lady also told me she could not give me the info again that she had just so freely given me and that verizon should have it all in there claim??? I dont understand??? from lost in washington

    DARLENE SCEARS - DUMPLING
WHY SHOULD I PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT DID NOT WORK - EVEN IF IT WAS HOOKED UP AND STILL COULD NOT MAKE CALLS OR EXCEPT CALLS. SO I WILL NOT PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT HAD NO SERVICE AT 7106 VICTORY DRIVE IN BATH.

In my youth I ruined my credit and now at the age of 38 I'm trying hard to fix these issues. I do have bad credit and are paying these collections but I came across two Afini collection bills from Verizon on my credit report that I never owed for 160.00 and 226.00. I want to do the right thing but I don't wont to be scammed either. I do have a Verizon account but I have never been late or owe them anything now. What should someone with a Verizon account and bad credit history do?
