long wait/ hold to credit card

I had a 9am reservation 04/20/2009 i called them at 9:30 saying I'd be at the repair shop and I needed a pick up they said how long will it take for you to get there i said 15 minutes he said ok. I waited till 10minutes to 10am to call back. Another guy said I have to see if the driver left if hasn't left will send out. Now mind you this place is just down the street. My husband calls and ask whats going on they said they should be pulling up in five minutes. Now its 10:38am enterprise calls the shop says the driver went somewhere else and forgot to pick me up. So he's coming back out and they finally picked me up. I called enterprise before to ask them would I need anymore money to pay they said no I  get to the counter and the guy says we have to hold $250 on your credit card well if I would have know I would put more on my credit card all I had was the amount for the rental. I was so upset I had to hold on my debit card and if anyone has rented from Enterprise before knows it takes a long time for that money to be released. I can't stand renting from them!!!

    Tried recently to rent a car while my car was in the shop(a SUCKY shop I might add, but that's another story) and they threw the "hold policy" in my face after my card was declined (I had MORE than the amount to cover the rental, but still got declined.), even though on the website it says all you need is the credit card. What they fail to mention is the hold requirement (I haven't seen it on the website, but if it's there, something like this should be posted in a NOTICEABLE portion of the website like FAQ, not in some hard to read fine print). Even if you have the funds to increase the available limit, you have to wait at least a day to access them. I was PISSED when I got there and had to catch a cab home.  I usually use Avis any way as they do not require holds, or at least not significantly more than you're rental price. I wish they had cars that day.

    I had a similar issue with Enterprise I was told a $50 hold for the car now when I returned it there is a $250 hold.  I never authorized that!

      Yep----rented a car from them for 8 days while my car was having collision work done (someone hit me).  They put a $150 hold on my card initially and today I noticed that it went up to $400!!!!!
