Contact your bank immediately to dispute all unauthorized or fraudulent charges, and close the account to prevent future fraudulent charges.  Follow up by sending your dispute IN WRITING to the dispute address on your bank statement, and make sure they get your written dispute in less than 60 days from the statement date showing the fraudulent charge to preserve your FRB Reg. E dispute rights.

Note that there are two categories of complaints related to AOL charges:

    1)  People who once had an AOL account linked to a credit card or bank account, cancelled, and charges start again later, possibly due to an "error" on the part of AOL.

    2)  Fraudulent debit, credit, or bank account charges caused by theives.  On-line and internet providers are are often used by theives to test stolen account information.  Often small charges will show up as some ISP on on line service, such as AOL or NetZero, and if that goes through, much larger charges will be run through to order merchandise from on-line merchants.

In both cases you want to immediately dispute the fraudulent charges with your bank, AND close the account to prevent additional fraudulent charges.  Since closing checking accounts can be disruptive to payments to legitimate creditors, this is a good reason to NEVER use, activate, or even have debit or check cards linked to your checking account.

Use only credit cards for payments to online or retail merchants, since they are less disruptive to block.  Use your checking account, or checks linked to it, ONLY for making payments to companies you know and trust, such as rent, mortgage, utilities, banks, etc.  Use ATM cards ONLY for getting cash from your bank's own ATM machines.

Assume that some percentage of the companies you do business with are either dishonest, or have had their computers hacked.  To reduce risk, use payment mechanisms that allow easier disputing and blocking, such as credit cards, and reduce your exposure to risk by minimizing the use of your checking account.  Always check your statements on arrival, and dispute all suspect charges immediately, including written disputes ot preserve your dispute rights under FRB Reg. E or FCBA.
