They also have a history of complaints of harassing calls, including making unauthorized robocalls to cell phones which has resulted in recent class action lawsuits.
It would not be surprising that they would be sending a lot of demand letters to people with no connection to the alleged debt.
Send them a letter, mailed certified return receipt requested, notifying them that you dispute the alleged debt, and demand that they obtain proof from the original creditor and send it to you.
If you send that letter within 30 days, they must cease all collection activity until they obtain and send you proof of the debt.
If they continue collection without proof (validation), or engage in deceptive, abusive, or harassing collection, file complaints with FTC, and your state AG, and find a consumer attorney. FDCPA allows courts to award statutory and actual damaged, as well as attorney fees, so you should be able to find an attorney to represent you on contingency. You might try www.naca.net
