missed flight

On October 9th, 2010 I was to fly with Turkish Airlines from Tashkent to Istanbul at 5.55am (flight TK368). The flight was delayed until 7.45am and no reason was given for the delay. When I arrived at Istanbul, I rushed to the Turkish Air flight desk to obtain a boarding pass for the next Turkish Air flight to New York which was to leave at 11.00am. I was then told that the flight had taken off already and that I would have to wait until the next day to fly back to New York. I informed Turkish Air that I had to catch another flight, this one with American Airlines at 6.30 pm (Eastern standard time) on October 9th. I asked several of the harried and confused looking employees behind the Turkish Air desk to please notify American Airlines that I could not make that flight due to the delay caused by Turkish Air. They all replied that they would not contact American Airlines because they had "no contract" with them and that I would have to make that call. Turkish Air admitted that the one day flight delay was their fault by putting me up in a hotel in Istanbul and paying for the meals as well as for next day's flight to New York. A fellow traveller and I did make the call to American Airlines from the hotel in Istanbul to change the American Airlines flight from Oct. 9th to October 10th. American Airlines stated that we both had to pay the fare of $189.00 again as the ticket was non-refundable and that Turkish Air was responsible for refunding the fee for the American Airlines flight on Oct. 9th because they caused the delay. Prior to booking all the flights, I purchased flight insurance with Travel Guard through my travel agency MIR. Travel Guard will not reimburse me unless Turkish Air gives a clear reason for the flight delay on Oct.9th. After several urgent promptings from MIR, Turkish Air sent an email to them, vaguely saying that sometimes in air traffic, delays can be caused by different "irregularities" that cannot be forseen. They did not, however, say exactly what caused the delay and subsequent waste of one day and missed flights. So, here I am: My insurance won't pay because Turkish Air does not say what caused the delay.Neither will Turkish Air pay. I am out $189.00 for the flight with American Air plus $20.00 for a silly one-day Turkish visa that was needed for the hotel stay. Why can't Turkish Air come up with a reason?? I won't fly with them again, that much I know.
