Not long ago I set up a new acct. with Compass Bank to do all my banking online.
I had been with another major bank and always paid online. For years when I paid electronically the dollar amount of my payment was always immediately reflected in my available balance. Compass works differently and they don't reflect a change in available balance so it is easy to think there is more in your acct. than actually exists. I consequently had 5 small overdraft amounts that were simultaneous @$35 a pop.  I spoke to their operations mgr. and explained how my electronic banking took place for 10+ yrs and the overdraft was a consequence to how the two banks reflect balances. I was told that they don't review any accounts unless you've been with them at least 6 months. I guess my question is,"why would you want to be with them 6 months when their customer service is so narrow minded and can't see the value of a long term relationship opportunity".

Go find a credit union.  The major banks are increasingly uncompetitive.

I opened my account with Compass in November after a 29 year relationship with Chase.  A persistant banker finally talked me into it.  First, they charged my account for $23. for the "FREE" checks they sent.  I don't even use checks. They charge $38. for the charge and $7.50 for every day you don't know you have that charge.  That resulted in a total of $143. in returned check charges.   Then they charged $38. for an NSF because they charged my account with a $5.00 service charge on a day that it only $2.28 in it. Today they have deleted my available balance because they have 2 $38.00 pending charges for items that may hit tomorrow.   They also take 4 days to deposit money from PayPal, where Chase only took 20 minutes.  When I went in to talk to the banker that convinced me to open the account and all of a sudden she turned into a witch!.  Couldn't help me with anything or do anything for me.  She lied about a few things and I walked away hoping to get some results from their customer service department.  They had me on the phone for a few hours giving me the run around and talking to me like I was an idiot.  No results again...  So opening an account with them has cost me over $385.00 in the last 2 months.   I highly suggest that unless you keep a $500. plus balance in your account at all times DO NOT OPEN AN ACCOUNT WITH COMPASS UNLESS YOU ARE RICH!!!  STAY AWAY!
