Early termination of contract fees

I signed a 2 yr. contract with Dish Satelite and after 12 months, my rates went up higher than I could afford.  I am 86 yrs. old and only have social security as income.  I was offered a bundle with another service and went with them.   I paid for sending the equipment back to Dish, and they say I owe $260 fees for the extra year that I didn't keep.   Can they make me pay for this?  They sent a notice that they would be deducting this amount from my debit card- bank account at the end of June.  After paying my other bills, I don't have this much left over.    Can they sue me or make a lot of trouble for me?  I am not well, and this is worrying me.  Would appreciate your advice.

    You cancelled..
because they changed your terms. They may have breached their own contract, and your cancellation was made in attempt to mitigate the damages they were causing.
