On election day, I received two odd calls, one I did not answer and one I hung up after answering and hearing a click followed by ringing, implying the call had been forwarded to some automated junk voicemail.  The readout on my cell said 726796 for the first call and 726795 for the second.  These are not numbers I can lookup with reverse directories because they don't satisfy the 10-digit criteria.  How can I find out who sent them?  Why did I receive them after I submitted my number to the "Do Not Call" registery?

If you don't get further calls past the election, it might have been some "get out the vote" robocall.  There are exceptions in the Do Not Call law for political calls, charity fundraising, and telephone surveys.
