playboy billing dept took it on there own to renew a subcription and didnt not give concent on this issue. He needs to be removed of the mailing list and will not subcribe again. He was a long time member until this happened.

They are reported to attempt to cram renewals onto consumers who have not agreed to renew, however, they reportedly back down if you just call them and tell them you are not renewing. Just contact them promptly.
You might also get some letter from a debt collector on such crammed magazine renewals. Some publishers use companies straddling the line between "debt collection" and "sales" to attempt to retain customers. If you get a "collection letter", send a certified reply indicating you did not renew, you dispute the "debt", and demand proof you owe it, then call the publisher and confirm cancellation. They generally cave in such cases, since they know they are crossing the line.
