I purchased a Dirt Devil Breeze from Walmart in Bloomington MN 6 months ago.  I no longer have my receipt.  The Breeze was on sale, plus it had good reviews, so I purchased one.

I am about to replace the Dirt Devil Breeze vacuum cleaner belt for the 7th time in 6 months. Several hours ago, I put the 6th belt on the vacuum cleaner.  This will be the 7th, and the second replacement today. I use only the belts approved by Dirt Devil.

I went online and saw I'm not the only customer who has had problems with the belt breaking.  This is outrageous.  I can't even do half a room before the belt breaks.

Now I now why the vacuum cleaner was on sale.  It's defective!

The belt has either too much tension being put on it---too tight---or it is not on the pully(s) correctly and as it turns, it goes off-center and the stress breaks it. Either way, too much stress being put on the belt. Have someone with a modicum of handyman ability take a look at it and turn the belt by hand to see how the belt acts as it is being turned.

It has nothing to do with tension or putting the belting right.   The spindle that it goes over heats up and melts the belt til it breaks!

I am having the same problem, I just replaced the belt and it started to smoke immediately, I turned it off and the belt snapped before I could remove the 4 screws to take a look. After checking it out, it seems like the brush spool is the problem, it is not easy to turn and it makes some noise, like there is debris or whatever passes for bearings is shot. I'm going to try replacing the brush roller assembly. according to some reviews on http://www.vacpartswarehouse.com/, the bearings burn out frequently, at under $17.00 before shipping (I'll comparison shop locally first) it might be worth it to try it once, and if it doesn't last; I'll have to upgrade to a better machine.

Please let me know if this solves the problem. We've had the breeze turbo 3 months or so, and had to replace the belt twice.

my useless dirt devil does the same thing. the company should fix the issue & send us all new machines.it can't be so many of us having the same problem unless the dumb thing is defective. mine did it after the 3rd time i used it.i took it apart after going online,& after breaking 4 belts in a row.there was nothing on the roller brush & it spins fine. what an expensive piece of junk. my son bought the same one (i think to gift to me since i was upset mine didn't work & didn't have money to get a new one).his does the same.SHAME ON THIS COMPANY! I HOPE  A CLASS ACTION SUIT IS STARTED.DON'T YOU TEST YOUR PRODUCTS BEFORE RELEASING TO THE PUBLIC?
