Criminal scammers phishing for bank account information.
Many reports that they claim to be "confirming" some "medical plan" that they claim the consumer had signed up for, and when the consumer denies ever signing up for anything, they claim they already have their account information and if the consumer refuses to provide their bank account number to cancel, it will be charged anyway.
Neat scam: "We already have your bank account info, so if you don't give it to us to 'confirm' your cancellation, we will charge it anyway."
Note one report that they claimed to be calling from "Social Security". They may be trying to play on the new Medicare drug insurance plans, trying to take advantage of old people.
Also a report that the same people may be running a "grant scam".
Appear to have just started ramping up in November 2007. Typical report: http://whocalled.us/lookup/9402346697 "Joan I received 6 phone calls from 940-234-6697. Jackie at extension 100 called my cell phone and said she needed me to confirm my bank information for a medical card that was ordered from them. I never ordered it !! She said unless I gave her my bank information to cancel it I would be charged $376.00 I told her I was going to report her to the Better Business Bureau which I did do. She said she was from National Medical Charity. She yelled at me and told me I was crazy and hung up on me."
"Kam This woman called me and told me that she was calling to cerify my accoutn info. for medical healthcare that I signed up for. I asked her when I signed up and who I signed up with. She said all she knew was that they had my account info. This was the same voice who called me about $4,000 in grant money. I changed my account info after coming to this website and finding out about the scam and I think thats why they called me, because they couldnt get any money from the old account. I told her I knew who she was and she had been reported by several people and I never applied for healthcare. Why would I do that when I get insurance from my job? She was very rude and she said "Well we have your checking account information and the money will be drafted from your account anyway." I told her go ahead, the jokes on you because that account does not exist anymore. Then she hung up on me."
