Trisha from PMG called my employer and told my HR Manager they needed to talk to me before they served me. I called to see what it was about because had just looked at all three of my credit reports, paid off a student loan and another bill I had, so I could not imagine who this could be. Claiming that I owed $4000 on some credit card. Said they going to take me court unless I entered into a settlement agreement which I would have to pay in full this month. I looked up the credit card company they say I owed only to discover that the bank that issued the card discontinued the card and closed the open accounts, in many cases without notifying the card holder. I see here that I am not the only one.

    So..
Are you saying that the bank they claim you had an account with, you never had an account with, and this alleged "credit card account" isn't yours?

    Typical shakedown scam..
!)  Call out of the blue, threatening a "lawsuit", demanding immediate payment of an unrecognized "debt".
    2)  Alleged "account" doesn't match any actual account you had.
    3)  Claim several thousand are owed, often claiming more thousands "for attorney and court fees", again, all without proof.  Often claimed to be "an old payday loan" or "an old credit card".
    4)  Alleged "lender" may often be untraceable, maybe disappeared through mergers, or took over a bunch of accounts, adding chaos.  Is the "error" really a "mistake" or does some scam just view that as an opportunity?
    5)  Offer to "settle" for half or less, if you pay "right now".  No FDCPA "g" letter, no proof or verification, Settlement is usually in the $500 to $2000 range that people might be able to scrape together, borrow from friends, etc.
