Like alot of people I get several recorded messages a day about a short call i made from a pay phone and was charged a outrageous amount. I wasn't even aware that that company was the carrier at that pay phone  and what the conditions were for the call. And I can't even get ahold of a human at the company to talk to!!!! I would like to find out more about this scam and what actions I can take against them.

    Ron,
Qtbill always discloses the price to the consumer, then asks the consumer to press 1 to accept the price.  Please email us at service@qtbill.com with more specifics, such as the phone number in question, and I will be happy to answer your questions.

Qtbill claims to be a "billing service" separate from the alleged payphone or collect call telecom service.

They also claim they are not a "debt collector", and do not have to follow those laws.  Many state laws apply the same dispute and validation requirements to both debt collectors and original creditors, and in addition, FCRA applies to ANY furnisher of data to, or user of data from, a credit reporting agency.

They have numerous complaints of repeated harassment with automatic recording calls, poor customer service, and problems getting information on the underlying bill.

They may claim to "always discloses the price to the consumer" but many complaints claim otherwise.  In addition, there are indications in a number of complaints that they have been used by unknown parties to make calls with fraudulent billing information.

If you have problems resolving billing issues, be sure to send your disputes IN WRITING, mailed certified, and contact FTC or your state Attorney General for assistance.
