I rented a car for 18 days from Europcar while in Spain. The car I ordered was a VW Polo. When I got the car in Caceres, I was given an Audi, which was brand new. The bad part was the car had no spare tire. On my trip to the northern part of Spain, the car began to make a thumping noise and then it started to sway sideways. I got off the road to find the tire completely destroyed. There were no warning lights in the car that anything was wrong with the tire. I called assistance and I had to walk to the nearest exit to tell them where I was at. A tow truck came to pick me up and I was put up in a hotel for the evening, after being told I would have to pay for the tire (I had full coverage insurance). The next day they took me to a town (Plasencia), but since the car was brand new, there were no tires to be found. I was then taken to Salamanca in a cab, where I was given another car...a VW Polo with a spare tire. I lost an entire day of research and the money I already paid for the night in a hotel in Santander....not to mentio 131 euros for the tire! When I filed a complaint, the result was to give me a refund for one day of the rental. This did not cover my time lost nor the hotel that I had paid for...and let's not mention the money for a tire on a brand new car that was not the one I ordered. Needless to say, I will never rent a car from Europcar again!
