Reported to be some "credit card protection insurance" marketed to customers of BofA.

It appears BofA is selling their customer data for use by telemarketers, who claim they get around the Do Not Call provisions by being "affiliated" with BofA who already has an existing business relationship.

Note that in other cases of BofA co-marketing "insurance" products, there have been high levels of complaints of fraudulent and unauthorized charges.  In this case, BofA appears to have provided full customer account information, allowing unauthorized automatic charges to be set up without consumers providing any billing information to verify their agreement.

Note complaints against "Smart Step"/Chartered Marketing/Intersections Insurance, with regard to telemarketing to BofA customers.

Best advice is to notify BofA to cease selling your information to affiliates under the privacy provisions of GLB, and notify both the telemarketer and BofA to put you on their Do Not Call list.  Both notifications should probably be done by phone, with written follow up.

And if you do have a BofA account, watch for unauthorized transactions, as they have been reported even in cases where the consumer claims they were never even contacted.

"Credit protection insurance" is often billed as a percent of unpaid balance, often as high as 1% per month on top of the normal interest charged, which could effectively double your rate if you have a good rate.

It is also possible that this telemarketer is hawking their product to customers of other banks, so beware.

They also appear to be selling to Wells Fargo customers.

"MBNA trying to sell Credit Protection and Fraud Protection, have called 8 times in two days!!!"

"Receiving calls for several months .. I blocked the numeric translation of 800-SERVICE and still got calls, on another caller ID phone I see the number, which is different. Several mentions of B of A but I don't recall doing business with them other than they bought out COUNTRYWIDE which I do have accounts with."

Probably inaccurate, but may indicate BofA CSRs have received fraud complaints.
"bank of america is aware that these callers are scammers, according to a bank of america customer service rep i reported it to.
BANK OF AMERICA WARNS CALLEES TO AVOID TALKING TO THESE PEOPLE."

    Caller id says:"Debt Protection".
Report of attempt to verify identity by Date of Birth.
They appear to be representing themselves as calling "from BofA".

"This is a phishing scam! BoA has no record of this # being used legitimately by their company. Plus the woman who called only used my maiden name, asked for me date of birth, called a # BoA doesn't have on file. Do not give anyone who calls from this # any information under any circumstances. Say that you will call the official customer service number that is available on the BoA website."

"The caller asked for someone in the house by first name only. I said that person was unavailable and asked who was calling. The caller said, "It's the bank. We'll call back." I doubt it was a bank at 5:45 on a Friday evening. I googled the number and several sources said it was people selling a credit protection plan for Bank of America."

"My call was similar to Joels's. Caller said she was from FIA and she could send us a free credit report and help us to pay minimum on our credit card - all she needed was my Birthdate. I told her "No, no, and no" - politely."

They may be one of Buffett's (Berkshire Hathaway) companies.
