Tearing holes in clothing, sheets, etc.

We bought our Maytag washer about 5 months ago. It is the top load with no agitator and high efficiency type. On various occasions we have found small holes (1/4" to 3/4") in some of the items washed. Two different times articles of wash were stuck under the bottom plate at the end of the cycles and it took a lot of effort (strength) to remove them, in two cases ripping the material. It appears that as the bottom moves, material gets pulled in and then it balls up underneath creating an almost impossible scenario of removing it without it tearing or at minimal making stretch marks on the material. We just bought our grandson a Spiderman bedding set for a Christmas gift and before placing it on the bed, we decided to wash it first. All we had in the washer was the fitted sheet and two pillowcases. When all was done the sheet had collected under the bottom plate and once I was able to finally get it removed, it had two quarter size holes along the elastic edge of sheet and stretch marks at various spots. Brand new bedding, now destroyed. Really questioning our decision to buy Maytag appliances. A very unhappy customer at the moment.
