Threatening Phone Calls / Messages

Complaint

I recently filled out an online request form and immediately got bombarded with phone offers!  These people are literally crawling out of the woodwork with "offers" and discounts...and most specifically - auto loans.  I outright own my car and don't want a new one or payments.

I've told all of them to remove me from their lists and thankfully the calls have almost stopped...all but the Indian-accented callers.

I too am receiving calls at work, on my cell and at home.  These callers are leaving threatening messages with sensitive information I wouldn't want anyone else to hear.

I'm being accused of having a payday loan in 2008 (which my ex-husband of 26 years MAY have taken out in our joint account but I never did).

When I tried to glean contact information from one male caller, he became enraged and shouted, "THIS COMPLAINT IS NOT AGAINST ME...IT'S AGAINST YOU!"   I promptly hung up.

1. I did not / do not have a payday loan.

2. The threats are constant / daily.

3. I know this is illegal.

4. What can I do to block these calls?  I've blocked every toll free number they've used so far but they've gotten wise and started calling from a masked number of (252) 555-5555.  This is an American woman calling herself, "Edie Carmichael, a personal locater,"  telling me to call 888-774-5827 with a "docket number" because SHE has been two my home address twice and no one was there.

I know they are lying but I can't stop the calls.

5. They are NOW contacting my relatives.  They phoned my daughter's house out of state and left her a long and BOGUS message that they needed a "statement" from her regarding the complaints against ME.  They also left an incorrect phone number which she called three times.  The number was for a private home and the man on the other end had no idea what she was talking about.

In my opinion (and hers), they are harrassing HER, ME, and the poor unsuspecting people they are giving out random phone numbers for.

This is a nightmare and can hurt me professionally.

Any assistance would be most appreciated!

You just got an education in how the Indian fraudulent "payday loan debt collection" scams are set up.

They get U.S. consumer information from frauduelnt "payday loan application" websites, then attempt to con people into paying them for unowed "payday loans".  They assume that many people who have applied on these sites may also have gotten other payday loans, so they can be convinced their "collection" calls are to collect on these other loans.

    It's just a con.

    File extortion complaints with FBI.

As you noted, they spoof caller id.  They are probably using VoIP, which allows them to show up as various area codes, or to set caller id.

You might contact Vitelity, telecom to the scams, explain that you are receiving VoIP extortion calls, and ask if any of the numbers are theirs.
    www.vitelity.com

If they call, dont' respond to their threats.  Laugh at them, or tell them the FBI is recording the call, or Seal Team 6 has been dispatched to take them out, or whatever.
Or keep calling them back (on any real numbers) until they get the message and move on.

As for calls to relatives, this IS an extortion racket.  ;Your relatives will have to learn how to handle this, which is as oulined above.  They will keep harassing you as long as they think it will work.

Received a threatening call (left message when I refused to answer because it just says "Incoming Call" with no caller ID) from "Sean Clark" claiming I must call 888-774-5827 regarding a case number to prevent papers being served at my home this Wednesday. My home number is unlisted so I'm a little puzzled as to how they got it. I am NOT going to return their call, nor am I going to answer any which don't show a caller ID.

Just received a call from a Shawn Clark stating he will be serving me with legal papers tomorrow between 3:00-5:00. and before I sign to call if I don't understand. Now that sounds fishy to me getting papers served out of no where? Wow! and yes I have received several calls and blocked them, but they somehow call from another number showing unknown caller. Do these people not have anything else to do!

Wow this is the exact same message I received today and actually found it quite humorous. I received a call  from Shawn Clark stated the same message and when told to call 888-774-5827 to speak about my file, the person I spoke with said this company is using other collection agencies to receive monies. Mr. Clark told me he has already shown up at my home and place of employment, funny how I have never seen them. The above number also stated they do not use case numbers like the one Mr. Clark provided, so Mr. Clark good luck to you!!!!! Since you want to be so threatening.. Ha ha..

I'm soo glad that I checked out this web site on this unknown caller. I received a call from 'unknown' at 7:29 pm last night. I never pick up 800, 888, or unknown numbers. I went back and checked voicemail and this [***] with an attitude left me a message to call them back at 888-774-5827. They are supposed to come to my place of employment to serve me Case Document FL-30-4677. This has got to be a joke. The best recommendation that I can give to anyone out there is that the less you pick up these phone calls, the better off you will be. They will eventually remove you from the list. If I don't know the number, I will not pick it up. Trust me, if it is really really important, the person, regardless will leave a message. Don't pick up the calls!

    Thanks for the info!
