Washer Making Holes in Clothes

I recently purchased a top loading washer and am having the same problem with shirts getting small holes at the bottom, specifically t-shirt material and sweaters. The repairman from GE called his boss who said it is impossible that the washer is causing holes in the same spot on the shirts. Really!, I told him to research this online. They are ordering a new drum but I am not hopeful.

I had my old machine 21 years and this never happened.
