A few months ago I had a single receiver go bad. I bought the receiver several years ago at Radio Shack for $99.99. It took me 3 weeks but Dish finally sent a replacement. (I never had to get one from DISH like they send most customers because I bought one and I found out today they had been charging me $7.00/month for my own receiver. That's what I get for not paying attention) They started sending me notices that said I had to send back the receiver I bought or they were going to charge me $100. I called and the "CS Rep" said he would forward the information to the appropriate person. Eventually they charged my account $100, which I refused to pay. Today they turned off my service.
I called and told them I had purchased my receiver and the "CS Rep" said I had to send it back anyway. I told her no, I paid $100 for it and its not theirs. She told me it was like buying a car. You take the old one in and get a new one.
I explained to her I wasn't buying a car, I was buying TV service. (And now that I think about it, car dealers don't give you a free car to drive when you first walk on the lot. Most Dish customers get their equipment free from Dish, rent it, and pay for the service.)
I got transferred to the "CS Rep's" supervisor and she told me it was too bad, I could either send the old receiver, send the money, or forget about service. After almost 25 years with DISH - I chose option C.
I never had a problem until this year with the replacement and now this. It seems they have become a horrible company. I guess paying $30,000 for TV service over the last quarter century doesn't mean a thing. It happens a lot, but its sad when companies start to view their customers as an inconvenience of doing business.
