The Lifetime in Orland Park, IL canceled my membership of nearly 9 years. My almost nine years of pure dedication seemed like nothing to them!

Let me start by saying, I have never caused any problems at lifetime fitness, never any complaints or roomers about me in the 9 years that I’ve been a member. Many people I know have joined the Orland Lifetime Fitness health club because I was a member at that club. Everyone knew my name and always waved, shook my hand or said hello. I never complained, condemned or criticized the club or anyone else. My $60K car was scratched by a lawnmower, I never complained about it. I had to go to the Burr Ridge location for a week or two because of remodeling, backed into a spot and had a steel barb sticking out of the parking stop went through my bumper, never complained. I didn’t complain when my son was hurt in child care or when other children taught him a swear words. At 3 years old a child taught him the F word and I was told by a worker it happened, my son was saying that word all the time for months, I never complained. I didn’t even complain when my car was broken into during the day in the lot at the club! Many more situations occurred, I could have complained about but didn’t. . I have never had a complaint about any of my children and never had been called to the child center for any reason.

Approximately 3 months prior to the cancellation of my Lifetime Fitness health club membership I had a situation where Stephanie Pekoz (child care worker) handed me a sheet of Xeroxed paper that said I was late to pick up my son from the daycare. The note said that if it happened again I would be suspended for two weeks from the club. I explained to her that all of the clocks were off by 5 min to 20 min each and some of them were even broke. Her reply was, “Yea, right, whatever” and she turned away from me. She had known me a long time. I felt she shouldn’t talk to me or any patron in this manner.

Stephanie Pekoz has always been disrespectful towards me. After the way she had treated me with such disrespect, not listening to my point about the clocks were off etc. I had decided to call Lifetime Fitness corporation to complain about the clock time differences. In turn the lifetime fitness corp office gave me the phone number to Jim Scurto (the gm for Lifetime Fitness in Orland Park) and corp office apparently phoned the health club as well. I made several phone calls to Jim Scurto, finally I received a return call on my cell phone a day later, coincidentally I was at the club I told Jim Scurto I was at the club, he then went up to where I was working out and we discussed the situation. I explained and pointed at each clock, I said “look at these clocks, every clock is off from 5 min to 20 min and some do not work.” I also talked to many people who had the same complaint”

Jim Scurto seemed very withdrawn and did not seem to care about my problem but smiled and looked in my eyes with a blank look as I spoke.
His reply was, “we have got a lot of complaints about this, and we are getting satellite clocks so this doesn’t happen”. I went on to tell him that rules are being bent for other parents at the club when checking their children in and out (over the 2 hour time limit).
I said why aren’t the rules bent for me? Stephanie Pekoz has special friends she checks out if they are late, without them being there, I can prove this. Stephanie Pekoz will hand type people in when they show up to the childcare without scanning the card (mainly people she babysat for on the side). If they are late, she may call for some people over the loudspeaker. I asked why they couldn’t do this for me if I was late; Jim shrugged his arms and sneared questionably and said “I agree”. I was discriminated against by Stephanie Pekoz (from what I seen and heard) because I didn’t cut her hair (like the one lady she gets haircuts from), because she didn’t baby-sit on the side for me, because I wasn’t a woman or simply because she did not like me. There were two witnesses close that watched and heard that conversation with Jim Scurto.

Jim said “what would you like me to do” (throwing his hands up), I said I would like these clocks fixed for one and I don’t want this strike against me if I was not wrong. He said “has Beth Long spoke to you about this yet” I said no, (at this time I didn’t know who she was). He said “ya, because she got a call in about something like this” “I’ll check it out”, nothing more was done, during our conversation he also said that if I want to cancel my membership to give it 30 days from the time of cancellation, etc, appeared like I made a mistake by complaining! Never the less, I had “snitched” on Stephanie Pekoz and she was not happy about it. (a month or so later Jim Scurto was walking around and I said “hey Jim, where is the satellite clocks?” (Being sarcastic) He threw up his hands and said “That’s corporation for ya!”

From that day on Stephanie Pekoz and Beth Long Kane had been discourteous, aloof and sticklers to me, never the less Stephanie Pekoz had always been rude, it was clear that they did not like what I had done. Stephanie Pekoz had another reason too, which I will explain later! The day after the conversation with Jim Scurto, Stephanie Pekoz had said “you going to be late anymore?” and smiled. My workout time went from 9:30 am - 2 hour workout to a new schedule of 9:30 am - 1.5 hr so there was no chance I would be late regardless of the clocks all being off I left at 11am. Every time I was around Stephanie Pekoz and Beth Long Kane I can feel the tension in the air, never looking me in the eye, it didn’t take a genius to see they didn’t like me. One day my son ran up to me at the check in door so I turned around and asked if Beth Long Kane could buzz me out, she took my lifetime fitness card, put it on the other side and said “we use this door to check in, you have to walk all the way around (using her pointer finger) to the other side to get out”, “this way the traffic flows” (in a sarcastic tone) although, there were no people checking in or out at that specific time yet I had seen them buzz people out through the in door, aside from that the doors were often broken for moths at a time.. There were many other situations like this with Beth Long Kane and Stephanie Pekoz although I think the idea should be clear so I will not continue on the subject.
Clearly I was being black balled over my complaint. I felt like a target now.


On 11-30-09 I arrived to the health club with my son as usual as I had during the last 3 and ½ years of his life and my daughter before him. On this day there was a cluster (perhaps 4) of children in the check out area (1 in 6 years for me), I was not sure whether the children were coming or going, there was confusion. I had been driving a while (hours) and needed to go to the washroom, bad.

I waited and waited, Stephanie Pekoz was hand writing “something”, I asked them if the computer was down again, but Stephanie Pekoz did not answer or look at me, another worker said she had to copy some information. Beth Long Kane was also at the check-in desk just observing. Two computers, 3 people and nothing were happening. I picked up my son and put him over the gate to get him out of the way while I ran to the washroom, Beth Long Kane said “John, you’re going to have to wait your turn” in a tone like you would speak to a child. I said Beth, I have been in the car a long time, I didn’t think it would take so long I need to use the washroom quick”, she looked down at some papers shuffling, I said “is that ok with you”, she did not answer me, she shrugged her shoulders and tilted her head to the side, again I asked “I have to go to the washroom is that ok?” She peered her lips together opened her eyes wide and the said ‘Okaa-ay” snyly (as if, if that’s what you want, I will mess with you because of this). She could have said no or make sure you check him in but the only word out of her mouth was Okaa-ay, I went to the washroom received a phone call on my cell phone and forgot the entire situation at the childcare. I had assumed they would have check my son in, I should have double guessed the situation. There was no common courtesy from them, no consideration that this has never happened in nearly 9 years, no consideration that they have known me for as long as they worked at lifetime! Why was I singled out? Situations like this have been adjusted for others why not me?

I went to workout, 20 min later Beth Long Kane came up to where I was working out on the floor, she squatted down to my level, less than 12” got in my face and said “you need to go downstairs right now and check Johnny in” (again, speaking to me like I was a child) I said I was sorry I thought they would do it under the circumstances, She said “no, you need to do this now!” (demanding and provoking me), I said you came all the way up here to purposely make me go down and check him in when you have checked him in without the card when I lost one or had forgotten my card at home, she smiled shook her head and said “yup!” I felt like she was going to screw with me as much as she could that day, I felt bad for my son thinking they would mess with him as well. I walked away and said “I bet you got a lot of friends” she said I have tons, as I walked down the stairs I said “I don’t think so”. When Jim Scurto canceled my membership, he said what I said to her is enough to get my membership canceled alone. If that doesn’t sound like a discriminating factor to me! I knew at that point, it was some sort of conspiracy.

I was not happy about this situation. As I walked to the child care I tried to phone my wife on my cell phone to express my frustration. I continued to the child area and said, to Stephanie Pekoz you believe this [***], she’s making me check in like this. My phone was froze and I couldn’t get out, under my breath I said something that only one that can hear that was Stephanie Pekoz and one other lady who worked at the childcare and it was not about Beth, period.
Stephanie Pekoz has said CRAP many many times in the childcare center which I find inappropriate as a childcare worker and I also hear her say “shit” as when she is talking to the other girls about hours cut, etc. What I might have said is nothing compared to what some of these 4 year olds say and teaches my son! So now Stephanie says to me, “you don’t have to swear about it” I said I’m sorry, I’m a little upset (The Beth situation and my phone freezing). Stephanie Pekoz scanned my card, I went back to workout and it was forgotten.

Side note: It has come to my attention that I am not the only one that has had LT membership canceled because of childcare, one very recent, where a man brought his son on a school day, he was provoked into an argument because, Beth came and got him demanding he take his child out of childcare because it was a school day. I’ve seen other people do the same and not have issues. Rules are bent for some and not others. At the end of the argument this person said F U! to Beth, Stephanie clearly knew about it and clearly had an opportunity to get me! I only spoke to two people about this so far and discovered 3 other cancellations. This could be a pattern, I’m not sure yet.
Between forced cancellations and people closing accounts because they cannot afford it, I had seen more people leave and not many new faces.

When I returned to the childcare I apologized to the other worker, Stephanie or Beth was not there. I was still not happy about the Beth situation but thought I would simply apologize to keep as much peace as possible due to the fact my son would see her nearly every morning (3 – 4 days a week). She was not in her office, I turn the corner and seen her at the end of the hall with her arms crossed, she then smiled and said can you come in here for a second. I enter the last office and thought she wanted to settle our difference.
Jim Scurto was inside and another (I assume) manager was seated. Jim Scurto shook my hand and said, a team member said you called Beth a B and a C (only can guess what a C is). I said wait a minute, I NEVER called her a name and he said “well I believe my team”.
I said “I am telling you now, I never called her a name to her face or behind her back”, I never said Beth was anything to anyone, not even my wife, nobody, never – You are a ____ or Beth is a ____ never came out of my mouth. At this point I thought we would get the facts straight but Jim was firm and said your membership is canceled. With Beth smiling and sitting on the desk I asked her to confirm what I really did say to her and she did confirm it. I said for saying “I bet she has a lot of friends etc, ” they all said yes. As far as who said I called her a B or C, I was never told, I am 99.99% sure it was Stephanie Pekoz. There were no explanations from Jim Scurto. I explained to Jim how the club was mainly for my son, etc. and to reconsider after all these years as a loyal customer who never had one issue, He said “I’m sure he has other things to do” I said, no he does not. He said I have kids too you’ll find something. He then said “I am asking you to leave and never come back.” This all took place in front of my son, which was tasteless, not good. It was that simple, no discussion, no warning, no second chance, nothing. But a girl getting caught having sex still works out at the club!?


Why should an employee of lifetime fitness be able to disrespect me, talk to me in a degrading manner, talk to me sarcastically or provoke me and say what they want yet I cannot express how I fell. Complaints, discussions or comments are not allowed!?
I thought I paid them for the service, am I wrong? What happened to customer comes first, I never experienced this. With this economy I would think LT would do anything to keep people. This was not a fight, argument or abuse of any kind, she provoked me, I expressed how I felt about her in a non treating way, non vulgar way, a simple sarcastic comment. What is the reason of her complaint about me? I hurt her feelings? I challenged her? I should not have my nearly 9 years at Lifetime fitness taken away because of this “alone”. Nearly 9 years of a routine, a habit, a place I get my haircut, supplements and occasion lunch, a place– the only place my son can be with children his age and I can be in the same building, a place where many of my friends and relatives go.

The reason I stayed at lifetime was principally for the childcare and activities for them, plus because he knows most of the children at lifetime he has grown up with, this is our community. There are no children in our subdivision for him. The last days have consisted of TV! How do I recreate a new routine for him this suddenly?? He calls these kids at LT his buddies and keeps asking if we can go back.
There are 4 heath clubs closer to me than LT in Orland, one has much better free weights that I mainly loose and nicer locker room, the main reason I am LT was my kids, and my son is the one affected by this the most. If it not for my kids I would not want to go back where a couple people did not want me.

I had only informed now that there is an alleged clause on a contract that states a GM can cancel a membership at anytime for any reason. I’d like to say, I have never read anything like this, not 8 years ago, not 5 years ago, not 6 months ago, never. Since we joined we never received any contract or terms update. If there was a contract signed with that statement, it was not signed by me. My wife signed us up, she may have signed a contract, and never the less I canceled her membership around the beginning of summer. In any case, I have never read such a statement.
Basically, if you are not liked, or you smell, or you are black, they can cancel the contract? That is discriminating if not third world scary to say the least. I have seen trainers quit and have their membership cancelled because of it; two others had a 6 month suspension while one girl trainer who is good friends with Jim and was able to come beck the next day to work out. There is no consistency.

By the way, I’d like to make very clear that it is well known that Beth Long Kane
and Stephanie Pekoz are very close friends, including FaceBook friends and I have documented that as well!

I’d also like to inform you that there are people having sex in the family changing area, one person got caught, claiming she was just taking a shower and her boyfriend was next, she still has her membership. There are people and trainers selling steroids! I know trainers that are having sex with married woman who belong to the club. Jim Scurto, is going to take a great guy like me, a team player over nothing and cancel me because of “a team members word”? Or is it because I had an opinion?

Part of the issue was due to situations created outside Lifetime and I can explain further if necessary. I was targeted and discriminated against.
I am willing to return to LT mostly for the sake of my son and forget this ever happened.

I was informed on December 4th that there is a new sign in the childcare area that says If you argue with staff you will receive a one week suspension. My friend said he did not read the entire note so I do not know word for word yet. I have also been told Stephanie Pekoz the child care worker that was involved is now saying negative things about me. I cannot believe such a sign would be put up, obviously there are problems with others too. If these workers are mishandling our children we just sit back or get suspended, or in my unique case, canceled? My account was canceled; I guess from now on it is a week suspension.

    As a former employee of LTF, I have witnessed firsthand how management does basically nothing to meet the customer's needs. Because so many of the staff members work 100 percent on commission, if it doesn't make you money (i.e. helping customers) then you don't do it.

    The steroid usage/sales, trainers having sex with clients (married clients, at that) happened at the club I worked at as well (Houston.) That all being said, who cares if Stephanie and Beth are Facebook friends? I Think most of your argument was valid, but the fact that they are fb friends means nothing. Who cares?

    I also had my membership at LTF Orland Park cancelled for voicing my concerns in October. The were dumbels broke and missing for 3 months and nothing was done. I complained. I told him that he needs to rectify the situation. Jim Scurto stated  “That’s corporation for ya!”  Trainer Mike Wolf never put his weights away and takes up three machine at a time. When you'd try to work in he would freak out. One time he started swearing at me and told me I would have my membership cancelled. When I voiced my concern over this, I was made out to be the bad guy. I told Jim Scurto that this was "[***]" and had my membership cancelled for swearing. He even called the police on me. I was a member from the first day the club opened in 08/2001. I was cancelled because I said something and didn't make the club any more money than my monthly membership dues. Guys like Mike Wolf, even though he's an idiot is considered valuable there because he trains people and makes LTF more money. On my way out Jim Scurto stated "I'll make sure your never a member here again and will call the police if I see me around the club." I called the Corporate office and tried to contact his superior and my calls were never returned.

    I can tell ya where to start.  That main corp office is a joke! That Leticia trainer came up to me one day and asked if this girl I talk to all the time was one of my [***], another time during the summer I was tan from riding the motorcycle and she said I look like a [***].  Bob says [***] to Jim and gets canceled?  btw, Jim and Leticia are good friends, as a matter of fact the place is ran like all the employees makes love to each other.

    You are all correct though, ya can't make a complaint at lifetime!

    Never had a problem with Mike and I think he is younger than 50.  In any case, I have impede any actions I am taking towards lifetime for the interim.  I am awaiting "something" more, if not favorable, I will continue.  I have nothing but time, money, and two retained lawyers at all times.

    I am finding more and more people like myself and Bob.

    I've belonged to two clubs all along, I brought my son to this LT and when I did not have him (or PM workout) I went to my other club..  Funny thing, within a month I am in much better shape, bigger and shredding up!  No he said she said, no married woman asking me to go to hotels, no bs of any kind..

    Never the less! It is the principle of the thing.  We shall see..

    While some of your complaints are valid, other are completely out of control.  As a member of Life Time, I want the best care for my children.  The employees at the day care are constantly providing the best care they can give. I have seen parents blow up on these young high school girls who are just following policy.  I know that they have become much more strict about sticking to their rules and policies so there is no favoritism.  But, you said that these people have taken care of your child for the past 3 years, I think you owe them a little more credit.  

    Safety is the most important thing, and I am very happy that they need me to check in my child and aren't just doing it for me. You sound like someone who is pissed because they are receiving special treatment. NEWSFLASH not very many people get special treatment. Also, my son was there when another child was swearing. The employees cannot stop kids from swearing. They told me that my son was in the gym when it happend and he may have heard it and the child who swore was sent home. I appreciated the fact that they told me what was going on.

    Get a grip. It's a gym membership. Enroll your child in some sports or make play dates.

    Sue, I agree with you.  I am an aerobic instructor with LifeTime in Dublin, Ohio.  I began working with LifeTime in 1994 when they opened their first "megaclub".  Bahram had the right idea...fitness anytime for everyone!  

    I've taught at clubs throughout the US and let me tell you, LifeTime rocks compared to other places.  California Fitness, Lifestyle Fitness, and especially Urban Active, a club in the northeast, will all fade away.  LifeTime is still here because they truly have the member's best interest at heart.  Always.  

    Every once in a while you may come across a bad apple or two.  LifeTime has continuous training for employees in club services, customer service, and education on club policies and procedures.  LifeTime's key initiative is to provide above average customer service, then make sure employees are knowledgeable on every aspect of services our club offers, then makes sure the managers have all they need, then worries about the investors and owners.  I've never been employed for an organization where the employees are treated as well as we are, and I've never experience any health club that cared more for its members more than LifeTime.  

    I also noticed that the clocks are off.  Do you know how expensive a clock satellite system is?  And to purchase it for 88 clubs just because some of the members don't wear a watch is a bit much.  I don't believe the clocks are broken.  They are all battery operated.  Have you looked around at the club you fomerly joined?  It's amazing!  LifeTime uses all the resources to make your experience the best.  If you've been there 9 years, I'm certain you've noticed this.  Why focus on one negative experience when I'm very sure you've had many, many more positive ones.  Perhaps your one location could be an exception.  In that case I am positive Corporate has not brushed you off.  They strive to make everyone's experience the very best and members are always the most important aspect of our clubs.  

    Dear unhappy people, I urge you to remember that these people are human, just like you.  They may have had a bad day, they may not feel well but need the money so they show up and do their job the best they can.  I believe many people in this world tend to be defensive and take anything negative that happens personally.  It isn't personal.  If you would simply believe everyone has the best of intentions and not take everything so personally, maybe life would get a bit friendlier for you.  Whether we are aware or not, we all choose the way we think.  We can just as easily choose to think good things as we can to think the worst of everyone.  

    I hope this reinforces LifeTime's commitment to its members.  Please give LifeTime another chance.

    Below is the complaint I have filed to the corporate office....

                                            July 20, 2010

    To Whom It May Concern,
        I am writing this letter as a formal complaint regarding the inappropriate way my family, friends and employees were treated. And if that is not bad enough, the humiliation I had to go through when the authorities were called for no reason, not one officer but 5!!?? This was unbelievable!!! I was not rude, disrespectful nor unethical! I felt due to my race I was not treated as other guests at this facility. Furthermore, I was not questioned when I told the Customer Service Coordinator I wanted to cancel my membership.
        I have been a member for quite some time, and I have even purchased memberships for other employees of mine. Their names are Marilu Noyola, Juan Carlos Zamudio, Maria Trinidad Juarez, Teresa y Rebeca Aguilar. The ONLY thing I have done to the facility has been to bring business, which creates revenue and more jobs for other people.
       On Sunday July 18th 2010 I visited the Lifetime Fitness Center located in Burridge Illinois. I decided to invite 2 of my employees with their families to come visit the gym. I walked in around 3PM and, I was not greeted. I approached the service counter and a gentleman asked me to wait, but that the guest I was bringing in needed to fill out a waiver. I said that was fine, and I walked out of the facility to inform my guests.
        I walked back in a few moments later. When I was told someone would be with us in a minute. A young lady by the name of Laurie Zdenek asked my guest to fill the form (waiver). After my guest was done fillinfg out the form Laurie Zdenek proceeded by telling my guest there was a fee for using the facility. She said it was $30 per adult and $5 per child. I explained to Laurie Zdenek I was a member and that I have brought other guests and never paid a fee. She mentioned that now there was a policy for the (July 17-18) particular weekend and we must pay. I told her that it was unfair because when I signed up no one said there would be fee’s when bringing guests. Never the less these guests would’ve been potential clients of the facility. Nor was I aware or told how many guests I was allowed to bring into the facility at any given time.
        At this time I was embarrassed in front of my guest and other people surrounding the front desk because of this matter, so I asked to speak to a manager or supervisor. Laurie Zdenek said there was no manager available and I would have to wait until Monday. I then told her I preferred to cancel my membership. She then said again I would have to wait until Monday. I was upset and embarrassed so I left with my guests.
        After a few minutes I walked back into the facility. I decided to pay the fee we were requested to pay. I went to the service desk and as I waited someone by the name of Richard Marrela approached me and said “how you would like to go somewhere and be told there is no room/sitting for you because we let a few people in for free”. I answered “I wouldn’t be upset, and that is the honest truth”. Richard Marrela got close to my face and said “yea sure, you wouldn’t get upset if you are a paying client?” I was outraged at the way this gentleman spoke to me. I had gone back in to the facility in good faith to pay for the guests I took and eventually them being clients too.
        I took out my credit card to pay for the guests and he then takes the card. He grabbed it and said he was going to cancel my membership and credit my card with any credits for days left that I had already paid for in advance.. I was appalled and I took my card from his hand. I told him “I did not ask you to cancel me.”  Immediately after this, Richard Marrela threatens me with calling the police. And said “you people need to get out of here.” Honestly I did giggle because I did not understand why he would do or say this. I did not misbehave, mistreat nor disrespect ANY of the employees at the facility. I will admit I was very upset but I NEVER lost my temper,or did I make any racist comments.
        I this point I told him I had recorded everything that had occurred since I had walked in a second time around. Richard Marrela tells me I’m not allowed to record anything. I told him that I would take this to the media so they could see the way my guests and I were treated knowing I am a member of the facility.
       When I noticed how other employees where reaching the service desk I felt intimidated, so I proceeded to walk out of the building, and into the parking lot. I gathered my family and friends and walked toward are vehicles. I noticed 1 police car driving up the entrance. Then immediately after that I saw 3 other police vehicles, including one of the cars with 2 officers. While I was driving off the parking lot my wife and I noticed that a police officer came out of the facility looking around the parking lot.
        At this time I am outraged and definitely disappointed in the way Lifetime Fitness Center conducts business. Not only do the employees not have any customer service orientation but definitely NO manners on how to conduct business. And it will be to the best of my abilities and recourses to inform not only the community but other people like me, how you will get treated at Lifetime Fitness Center. I ask myself, how a family center like Lifetime can be so inappropriate when it comes to health and fitness, customer service and respect.
       Not only am I not visiting the facility again. But I will make sure all my friends and family who are members become aware of the treatment I received.
        I asked that the corporate office, Regional Manager, or someone with authority to this particular Lifetime Fitness Center contact me regarding my complaint. If possible, please ask the facility for the security videos so you can see that I am being truthful, and I was mistreated by Richard Marrela. Also I have in my possession the sheet my guests filled out and in this form, it does not state there is a fee/ or will be a fee to visit the facility. I feel this is false advertisement, when you become a member and are told you are allowed to bring guests. Then at the end they are being charged to visit when they can become potential clients.
        If I do not get a written response within the next 30 days, I will feel obligated to take all the information including any statements, videos, even pictures to Univision, Telemundo, ABC Channel 7, Fox Chicago News, WLS Chicago News, NBC 5 TV and of course I will upload it on YouTube.com.
        I hope in hearing from someone very soon regarding this important matter…..

    As a former LTF employee the company is all about the MONEY and the PROFITS at all cost. The cusomers are very low on the list of priorities. LTF also cares very little about employees. As the large turn over of staff thought out the company. They are an example of corporate at there worst!

      I totally agree. Lifetime is a joke when it comes to taking care of their employees. The customer is never right according to Lifetime Fitness. Also, all the employees just sleep with each other it is disturbing.

    LTF is the most expensive, poorly run, poorly maintained gym facility I have EVER been involved with, and I have been a previous member of Powerhouse Gym, LA Fitness, and Ballys, and while all 3 of them had their problems LTF took the grand prize for Worst of Them All!

    I was a member for almost 9 years at LTF Bloomingdale, this place started out great, but as the years went by it got progressively worse, cleanliness,customer service and managment all went downhill fast. In my last few years with them, the locker rooms were always a mess, showers facilities scummy and poorly ventilated so it was always mildewy and stunk badly, equipment was always down and usually down for weeks, kids under the appropriate and stated facility age were allowed in the weight areas all the time and were usually messing around, Spas were also always down and never working properly if they were working at all. And customer service was just non existent, if you needed anything from somebody there, you had better be ready to wait a long time to talk to somebody or get somebody top help you.

    The last straw for me and LTF came about 3 years ago when I had some financial problems and needed to cut back on some monthly luxuries and tried to cancel my membership. The short version of this story was, I never received any updated policy copy from LTF over the years as a member with them. I signed up for LTF in Bloomingdale Illinois before the building was even finished yet, by doing do I got a discounted rate and NO sign up fee. Nowhere in my original contract was there anything that stated about having to cancel by the 5th of the month. In fact, I was copied on a response by a representative of LTF to the BBB complaint I filed 4 months after this incident took place. LTF admitted to the BBB that they (and I quote)"may have failed to update their policy to some members, but would do so in the future to prevent this problem from occurring". The very fact they admitted this proves I got screwed.

    The fact that my customer history and longtime standing of almost 9 years with their company as a customer was never taking into consideration is a complete insult. An estimated almost $5,000.00 in membership and sign up dues I had given LTF over the course of my stay there, and all they cared about was taking another months dues from me when they knew they were in the wrong in my case. By doing so, LTF made sure I will never come back to them as a customer ever again by these actions, and also made sure I will never recommend them to anybody for the remainder of my life.

    My recommendation, LA fitness is half the price for the same stuff with a locked in rate, just know that you have to send your cancellation in for LA by mail..but other then that LA fitness cleanliness, equipment maintenance and enforcement of club rules were very good (well at least the one I was at, Schaumburg IL)

    Lifetime fitness hires a bunch of A**HOLES!!! They charge an arm and a leg to workout there- and hire a bunch of ditsy little "know it alls". Watch out for Janelle Meisner- front desk at Life Spa- Chloe ???- also front desk-  and manager of the Life Spa- Angela Zarob. They are the rudest bunch of girls/women I have ever seen. After getting the run around from front desk bimbo Chloe to speak to the manager Angela about working as a hair stylist in the salon- Chloe blatently lied while I was on the phone to her manager about (falsely) getting back to me to set up a phone interview. Angela (the manager) hung up on me. And when I went in to ask why I was treated so poorly- I was directed to her manager who asked me as I was walking out if I was a member at the club. When I said "no"- his response was "Dont bother". Im a single mother of a teenage daughter and have been in the profession for 20 years. I was highy qualified- extremely polite(even though I was upset)..and professional. Chloe had told me in an earlier conversation that they were looking for "the right fit"- meaning 20 or 30 something in age. They discriminate- are arrogant- and do not put any of the customers first.

    As I was walking into the new Lifetime Fitness location in Syosset, NY this afternoon, I noticed a woman walking out with a child in physical distress. A staff member, presumably a membership rep was calling to her that she was rude for leaving before the tour was over. I heard her say something about her child having a physical problem. He still continued to harass her. I don't know the whole story. Even if the guy was right, to adversely follow someone out of the building?  Not good vibes for such a new club to the area.

    My complaint was for being treated rudely in the Orland Park, Illinois facility by the child care workers.  They could not locate my child who was found hiding under a desk and made me look to be the bad guy because I was upset noone knew where he was.   I also get dirty looks and comments when i drop my child off there.   Also, when I met with a physical trainer he told me if I dont sign up for more traing Ill probably not live to see my children graduate etc etc.   I talked to my doctor who was shocked I was told that and said he was out of bounds.    The spa also has nonstop turn over of stylists and aestiticians.  The one girl told me its because of the drama and backstabbing.  I am going to look around for another club.

    All these complaints here are actually tame compared to what actually goes on here.  Jim Scurto is the main problem.  He is vile, lying human being and everything bad said about him is only a drop in the bucket.  The bloomingdale location is a lawsuit waiting to happen.  DOWN WITH JIM SCURTO, EVERYONE WHO HAS HAD A PROBLEM WITH LIFETIME REPORT THIS SACK OF **** TO CORPORATE AND GET HIM FIRED! This club's management is beyond outrageous, it is deserving of some vigilante justice.
