I got a call from Broadwing Communications LLC out of California under the telemarketing name of LinkMail Media (310) 765-4071.  The young woman's name was Natalie. She started off by claiming that they were the company that did $500 worth of work on a free website for my architectural business.  After stating that she was mistaken about the work and that I'd never heard of them, she proceeded to tell the name of yet another person, Jessica, that had been working with me for the past several months.  When I emphatically responded that I was a small business and that I'm in charge of who I do business with regarding my website, she proceeded in yet a bolder fashion.  I stated she was a liar, and at that point she stated, "...all it takes is a few bad rumors to ruin someone's reputation and is that what I wanted?"  I called her a vulgar, bad  "C" name that ALL women hate and hung up.  I reported them in detail to the DO NOT CALL registry, called Sprint Corporate Security and filed a complaint of threat to damage my company's reputation, the computer-crimes division of my municipality, found this blog on the internet and telling what happened, and will follow up with a complaint to the AG Office.

You are dealing with a fake billing shakedown racket, much like the "business directory" fraudulent telemarketing scams.

Broadwing is a VoIP telecom.  VoIP is often used by telemarketing and debt collection call centers, and is also popular with scammers who like to hide behind ever changing phone numbers from different area codes.

Contact Broadwing directly to report the use by one of their "clients" of their services in a fraudulent extortion racket, and include in your complaint that you have also filed fraud complaints with FTC and your state AG.  Maybe you can get their current number cut off.
