The sales hype is not the actual way business is done. Don't join it is a rip off!

My husband and I signed up in Kansas City Kansas Direct Buy. We were told we could purchase things at cost so the mark up didn't matter that other stores offered because we were guaranteed lowest prices. We were guaranteed to save the membership in the first year but for sure within the first three years. We were then told that the handling fees of 7-8% were disclosed at the product purchasing meeting on how to order from catalogues. We didn't go to the meeting and did not know that was part of the costs tacked to the price of items. Then our store went bankrupt. Now our items are bought concierge shopping and they do the communication through emails. No joke it is a nightmare! Each response is entitled to 2 business days for a response but the responsse does not answer the questions on items to be ordered. After many rounds of emails, a month later, and many follow up phone calls we are finding NFM is only about $100-$200 less on big ticket items -we decided going to the store is less headache and loss of time.
Literally, the company does archaic business through emailing info to you. Your list is cut into many tickets, you have to do business with many people, they dont get your information until several emails and each email is allowed 2 days to respond. Totally inefficient and frustrating for the client. The many hours of going online to fight for lower prices through other stores is fruitless because DB requires that other store to make a purchase ticket and that ticket is submitted to get DB guaranteed lowest price. (That was supposed to be the purpose of the membership-was'nt it?) The DB Online store is incomplete, slow, and disorganized and ineffective because it does not show all the items of companies they represent; they are limited to how much of a line that they can sell. We discovered NFM gets certain models of appliances/furntiure as big box stores like Sears or Home Depot or Lowes -they are only sold certain models -such is the deal with DB. So name brand furniture may not be available in your style because DB doesn't have access to everything on the companies they advertise selling for. The competition is stiff enough it is hard for them to offer the lowest prices. Their online is very disorganized and their systems of dealing with customers is a real nightmare! I would NOT get a membership! Save your money and buy at NFM.
WE have been at DB for almost 2 yrs and we did not recoop our membership and we bought 2 couches, and 3 chairs. We attempted to purchase 2 more sofas but found it cheaper at a local store with their buy one get one half off, so we bought 2 sofas there. We priced pulls for kitchen cabinets for $4 each and with DB handling fees and other charges those would cost 1/3 more than going to the local store. We priced lights for a whole house and were told we need to buy in bulk to get a better price! We had to take one light off and the order process took so long that months later our electrician showed up and I had no lights. So, I had to go to Lowes and just select lights to get them installed on time. We tried to purchase appliances and got a price at NFM and the only way DB could beat them was to bundle and then change the colors to beat the NFM prices. They also changed the model number on our frig and we lost the inside water dispenser because we were told the model was updated. But they changed the model and it was not as nice and we could not return the item. You can't return anything-- all sales are final- unlike NFM. This does not address the nightmare of trying to get them to ship and schedule delivery of any item on time etc...!
SAVE your money and shop somewhere else! We would have been ahead financially because we didn't find the savings they claimed to give! Now they say they guarantee a certain percent savings on items but that is not what they originally agreed to . Any sale at sears or anywhere could easily beat DB price without purhcasing a huge membership!
