Mold and musty stench

Help! My front loading maytag 3000 washer has developed a large amount of mold.  The majority, from what I can see, is located in the area you put the detergent. I am able to clean some of it but it looks like there is more in the area you pull out to put the detergent.  Is there a simple solution to this problem or do I have to call a professional.  My kids have terrible allergies and the mold is not making it better.  Thank you!
