I called Leak Stoppers Inc, because of brown water stains on my Dinning Room Ceiling.

John OConnell from Leak Stoppers arrived and examined my problem; for just a few seconds.

Without even going on my roof, John quickly wrote up an estimate charging me over $2000 for a new front roof section.

It turned out my leak was from the siding and not the roof.
John did not look for a leak, he just wanted to install a new roof.
He is an incompetent unprofessional roofer.

John O'Connell from Leak Stoppers is indeed an incompetent unprofessional roofer and a crook.
He charged me $85 to give me an estimate for a job, which end up costing me $7300 to fix  a roof leak, which he never actually fixed –  He send a crew of 2 of his workers who spend less than couple hours spreading few tubes of silicon on the roof shingles.  In less than 2 weeks it rained and the roof leaked in the same spot, he had supposedly fixed.  When I called him to come back and fix the problem, he promised to show in my place in 1 /2 hr.  He showed up 7 hours later and without even examining what his team had done on the roof - he start to argue that the roof had another leak problem, which would cost $1500 more to fix.  When I reminded him that he already charged $85 for estimate the job, which he already billed me $7300, he become aggressive and threatening and argued that his trip to my house was costing time and money -  John is a thug and should never be trust -  Leak Stoppers is just a scam.

Nice story 'Hank'.  This is not how we operate.  We could not be the only 'A' rated roof repair company if we operated this way.

Total Lie.  Probably a jealous competitor.

Their 'diagnostic guarantee' isn't worth the paper it's written on.  They diagnosed a leak and charged around $400, we fixed the sheet rock and paint after thinking the leak was fixed costing another $300, but the leak wasn't fixed, when they were called back they came out and said they will redo the job, after pressed about the initial job and the sheet rock damage costs they went up to the roof and claim that it's not the roof repair issue rather a drainage pipe that's causing it and they said it very rudely.  ok so what about that diagnostic guarantee... He walks away and says don't call me again. total rip off company stay away!

In Fifteen years of business, I have mis-diagnosed only a few leaks as result of hidden plumbing problems.  When customers call to fix their roof because it leaks 'when it rains' and there are visible flaws in the roof above the leak, we fix the roof.  When it leaks again, we return (under the warranty).  If we are licensed roofers (not licensed plumbers) we refer the customer to a plumber.  Our warranty is for the work we do.  $400 gets a customer (1) an analysis, (2) repairs to roof and (3) return visit from owner to honor warranty (inspect work proper workmanship).  We do not claim to be perfect.  We are human.  If we could have done this repair any differently (more efficiently) we would.  This repair took a process of elimination and we processed it.  The fact is, this customer had a tough leak that cost them grief and $$$.  That was going to happen regardless of who they called.

Are plumbers and electricians that charge service fees 'sketchy'.  We only charge service fees for leak analysis and same day repair service (just like a plumber).  We give Free estimates on new roofs, just like all our fellow A-Rated companies.

And yes, We are the only company that charges this fee.  **We are also the only A-rated roofing company that does repairs (as low as $200) on Angie's list.  All of our competitors that give FREE estimates, only sell roofs.  They may tar something for $100-200 but if it leaks again they will only credit to a new roof ($6-15,000).  Free for $6,000-15,000 or Service fee for an accurate scientific analysis of a job costing $200-15,000.  It is your choice.  We provide both types of estimates.  We are a full service roofing, siding, window, skylight and chimney company.

Wow , I had quite the opposite experience.  I received Leakstoppers number through a friend who had nothing but good things to say so I gave them a call.  They were punctual , professional and courteous. I had reoccurring leaks for 6 years , had 3 other contractors try to fix it and Leakstoppers was the only one to fix it on the first try.  I am inclined to think these are bogus posts as I was so impressed I refer them to everyone.

I only had John come to my house for an estimate. Within a minute of explaining the problem he was confrontational, rude, and telling me I was wrong in what I thought the issue was.  He went on the roof for a few minutes and returned with a few pictures. He estimated around $3-5k for a new roof because we had the wrong material on ours. I let him know we didn't plan on staying in the house for more than 2 years and wanted to fix the leak, but not put that much money in to it. He became even more rude, telling me the $85 is not what he's in this job for and basically I wasted his time. He spun around and walked right out the door. Even if you have the only A rating in LI, I would never use someone with such terrible customer service. I'm a business owner as well and this guy was disgraceful.
