Was contacted by a man who identified himself as "Vijay" who said he was with Dish Network promotional department. He said he was offering a promotion where I would pay a $575.00 fee as a single payment which would provide me with Dish Network "Top 250" package for 24 months. This money was to be paid through Western Union. I provided them with my social security number and credit card number. Per my request, they sent an email detailing the specifics of the offer. This e-mail was sent by "Sam" and a phone number was included (303) 800-8559. I called this number and they responded "Dish Network Promotional Dept." A Dish Network technician came to our home and connected our TV's to Dish Network as agreed upon. I contacted Dish Network today to arrange payment and they said there was no such promotion being offerred. They did however have all of my information in their computer system including my credit card information which was never directly provided to Dish Network. I am unsure if Dish Network is also a victim (being hacked) or if they are in cahoots with this scam. We stopped all credit card payments, notified our bank, and are getting new account numbers. We were able to negotiate a lower rate with Dish Network for monthly fees but it is not as low as was promised us by Arrow Satellite. Tried to contact Arrow Satellite but only got a message machine. Dish Network says this is a scam, however they ARE still benefitting from this because we cancelled our previous service and now we are their unwitting customers! We are reporting this to every bureau we can contact.

Payment by Western Union is usually associated with overseas phone scams.

    Two possibilities:
    1)  Dish is using a telemarketer that is making false promised to close orders.
Dish does have a history of deceptive selling used to sign up customers, and has settlements with some state AGs related to this deceptive aait-and-switch marketing.
    2)  Some overseas scam is acting as a Dish telemarketer then emailing you with Dish's actual contact number as part of the pretense.

Did you actually make a payment via Western Union?
How does Dish claim they got your credit card number?
Do they claim "you" called, and if so, on what date?

Contact your local DA's Consumer Protection Unit.
