THREATENING PHONE CALLS

I get a call everyday from 877-214-5814...its an automated message with a woman's voice who misprounces my last name and tells me we have papers to serve you regarding a loan and if I do not call back soon they will contact my family and friends.  I am going to take this to the State's Attorneys Office as this is clearly harassment and against the law!

    Shakedown scam..
    They always follow this pattern:
    1)  Calling out of the blue to relatives supposedly trying to "locate" you, or calls to you threatening to call your relatives if you don't call back.  Or harassing calls to your coworkers, all aimed at threatening to embarrass you, with no proof the "debt" is even real.
    2)  No such alleged "loan".  Other complaints also report the claimed "debt" is fake.
    3)  Contact is only by phone.  They avoid sending the FDCPA required "g" letter notification, probably to make it harder to track them down, and avoid mail fraud charges.
    4)  FDCPA requires debt collectors to obtain and send verification from the original creditor if requested, or cease collection.  Shakedowns evade such verification attempts, often providing NO information on who the original creditor was, or the date may even change from call to call.  You're supposed to "guess" that it's some old "payday loan".
