Keep receiving calls from 510-240-7181 and also 305-515-2691 and I think they are the same people. The 510 number says he is Officer Don with the Bureau of Investigation and that I owe money and as soon as I call his bluff he starts threatning to come to my workplace or residence to collect. The 305 number calls and says they have pre-approved me for a $2000 loan and claims his name is Paul Smith and that they are going to wire the money directly into my bank account in 45 minutes. My concern in both cases is that they had the last 4 digits of my social security number, my address, my former workplace name and a former bank account number. My thought is that they somehow have accessed paperwork information from these payday loan centers or they have hacked info from the internet.
In any case, a friend who is a police officer told me to file a report with the local authorities and get a file number, then call the credit reporting agencies with that number and put a red flag on my credit letting them know there may be fraud going on!
The loan place after I called their bluff threatened to run stuff through my account!

Typical fake "payday loan debt collection" scam.

Sometimes they get information through fake payday loan websites, since people who apply to those sites often also take out payday loans elsewhere, and they can be conned into believing these crooks are collecting on one of the real loans.

This scenario is usually played by scammers calling from India, using VoIP to spoof their caller id and appear to be from any U.S. area code.

    Any thick accents?

I also had "Officer Don" call last year. I asked for his badge# and where is was a cop. Then he retracked and said he wasn't an officer. I told him he said he was Officer Don. He got frustrated and hung up when I would not let go of the fact that he misrepresented himself. They will continue to harrass you. They will threaten to have you  arrested. They will call your employer. Another way to annoy them is just call them and talk about anything but what they called you about. Or just call them and when they answer stay on the line and say nothing. Do it repeatedly and they will quit answering the phone.

If they call tell them you know it's a scam and have contacted the Attorney General, FCC and FBI. They will leave you alone after that.
