My first contact with WaMu was when they bought out Providian. Before doing ANY business with WaMu do a Google search. I owed WaMu about $350.00 and had been making 2x-4x the minimum payment of $15.00. I suffered a mini-stroke and was admitted to the VA hospital.

After 5 days I was released, and the first thing I did was pay my bills. I had never been late and the month before my illness I paid WaMu $248.00 (on a $24.00 payment). I got online and tried to make a double payment of $30.00. I was told by WaMu that for being late 2 days there would be a $59.00 late charge.

I was astounded, I asked for a manager and was handed off to the rudest most vile individual I have ever encountered. So, I terminated the conversation and transferred the balance (now over $407.00) for a 2 day late charge. They would not accept an over the phone payment for less than the extortion fee. I called American Express and transferred the balance to them for a drop of 20% in interest and a decent account rep.

So, for those of you who think American Express is more expensive, I implore you to check the interest you are paying these telemarketer bank credit card companies, and compare them to AMEX. You will be as surprised as I was.

I wish I could pay off my balances so I could be rid of my Wamu credit cards. If I knew better I would not have activated those cards.  You live and you learn.

Amex is a good card.  They have been so polite and understanding about my late payments.  And I do not get charged horrendous fees.
