Sent to collection after over charging me for months of service after i cancelled

I got a letter from a collection agency saying I owe Verizon 1000$. I cancelled my service July of last year and some reason it didn't go through. How convenient. After repeated phone calls to them I got the same bs ever time. We'll figure it out and call you back. No call back. So I'd call them. After doing this 5 times I never ever got a call back from them. Finally I got a collection notice saying I owe the crooks 1000$ for service I didn't use. I need help with this matter. My wife accidentally threw away the notice and I need to call them and dispute this. Can anyone help me. I need to know the name of the collection agency they use. I canceled service & they kept charging me every month
Call financial services over & over to talk with a manager- every time- ignore regular reps-they too said they would get back to me & never did-also gave me their phone # to call & for me to leave messages --all lies - stick to it- they owe you-took me 6 months- finally got a manager that cared- got $500.00 credit returned to my account-stick with it- keep getting names of every different manager & there locations too- keep using all this info- with whomever u talk with- good luck- do not give up no matter how frustrating-welcome to our world 2015
