I ignored the calls and now received an email!

Complaint

Another one that knows this is a scam!
Country: United States
This is an EMAIL I got:
This is in reference to your Account number 746-5325 with ACS in order to notify you that after making several calls to you on your phone number, we were not able to get hold of you. So the IC3 (Internet Crime Complaint Center) has decided to mark this case as a flat refusal and press charges against you.

Your account with ACS is in Final Collections. According to our records, your outstanding balance is $986.45

Do revert back if you want to get rid of these legal consequences and make a payment arrangement within the next 48 hours or else the case will be downloaded against you.

The opportunity to take care of this voluntary is quickly coming to an end. We would hate for you to lose the option of resolving this before it goes to the next step which is a Lawsuit against you, but to do so you must take immediate action.

As we have shared with you in previous letters, read your loan agreement; the next step is clearly defined. It could cost us both a great deal of time and money; you can avoid this by taking care of this now.

It is quick and easy:
Grab your debit card and call us right now in order to make a payment and freeze down this case.
Contact us on 1-347.627.0230

If you do not take immediate action:
We will be forced to download this case against you and once it is downloaded the creditor has entire rights to inform your employer regarding this and if you are found guilty under the bench of jury then you have to bear a law suit which will be amounting to $4515.85 and will be totally levied upon you and that would be excluding your bail charges, your attorney charges and the due amount pending on your name $986.45

Thanks for being our customer,

ACS Legal Department

I got the same exact email. At first it freaked me out. So I did some research before anything else. I'm glad I'm not the only one who got that same email. I'm just going to ignore it now.

I just got the same email.  Unreal what these people will do.  I have been getting calls from these people since the beginning of this year.  At one point they had an actual 911 emergency phone application that when they called me 911 emergency showed up on my screen.  When I called them back it went straight through to my local 911 operator. From what I was told that is extremely illegal.  I was going to email them back but decided against it after reading these comments and others I found thru Google

Any call center PBX can spoof caller ID, making it say whatever they want.

Many cheap VoIP services can do the same, and they are often used by overseas callers for this purpose.

If you respond to their threats, and they believe they can pressure you into paying them money, they will keep trying.

Tell them you have reported them to the FBI, and you are recording the call as evidence.  Or just hang up, until they get the message.

Do not give these idiots any information or pay them a dime. File a complaint with the FBI (Internet Fraud Page), FTC and the Attorney General for your state. If you run across any websites or threads where someone tells you to pay these people, it's one of the scumbags trolling these sites trying to convince people this is a valid debt.

I just received the same email.  I am glad that I do research before I make any phone calls or any decisions when it comes to my finances.  I will be filing a complaint against this email.  Thanks for the heads up.

Legitimate debt collectors don't first contact you by email.  They send a "g" letter by U.S. Mail, because they are required to send you notice within 5 days of first contact, under FDCPA (15 USC 1692g).

Scammers use email, because it's cheap, it's easy to send out a huge number, it's easier to send them anonymously with little trail, and if you
sent "collection" letters from India, it would be a dead giveaway.

When you get a reply, you probably have a naive sucker worth trying to con.

They do it because it must be working enough to make it worth it.

Might as well delete it. or save it if you collect memorabilia of fraud.  Not likely you will get much action from law enforcement against a scam out of the country, but they might confirm to you that it is a scam.

Best action you can take is to warn your friends, so they don't get suckered.

    My reply:

This email is being forwarded to the FBI for fraud review. If you feel the need to "try" and have me aRrested, feel free. Debts are civil not criminal issues. So please contact law enforcement. While you are at it let them know what your email says illegally threatening me. Ha haha. I will be forwarding the email to my local law enforcement as well. Have a great day.
