I have a very nice and very expensive Maytag front load platinum color washer which we paid $1500 for and at almost exactly 2 years old to the day it stopped working.  Of course, it is out of warranty and we had a Maytag certified tech notion come out for the repair.  $225 later he told us that our infants socks were stuck in the pump.  How in the heck did infant socks get stuck in a pump?  Aren't washing machines supposed to wash clothes withou getting them stuck in some pump?  After the tech notion left, the washer now gives us an error code of E01, F09, which apparently is an obstruction with the outflow.  I checked the hose to the drain and no such obstruction. So now we have to have a service call again.  The tech said that if the pump needs to be replaced it will cost around $350.  My parents had the much cheaper top loading washers my whole life and never had any problems until they were at least 15 to 20 years old.  I'm ready to throw this 2 year old, $1500 washing machine to the curb!
