I recently purchased a Craftsman self-propelled lawn mower at Sears. I found that they have some mowers on sale while at Sears for a different reason, so I was not prepared to buy the mower, but decided to do it because the price was attractive.

I got a hold of a salesman at Sears and asked him the questions I had. Once of the questions I asked was about the charging of the mower. The salesman told me that I needed to charge it the first time I use it and it will last for the summer season.

When I came home, I put oil in the mower and just tried to turn the key to see if it was working. I then started reading the manual. To my big surprise I found that the mower should be charged every time I use it.

I didn't like this fact, and the next day packed the mower back and went to Sears. At Sears they made me pay the 15% restocking fee because I "used the mower". I feel that it was very unfair considering that manuals are not available when you buy these machines and one has to rely on the knowledge of the salesman of the lack of it.

Sears mowers are quickly turning into junk.
Don't waste your time with them
Some of them, you can't adjust the height without removing the wheels!!!

Bought new Craftsman 160cc self propelled mower yesterday. Filled it witg gas & oil and tried it out. Found out it sprays loose debris (pebbles, twigs, grass, etc) from the top of the plastic rear bagger port while I'm using mulch or side discharge. Debris pushes the rear discharge port open slightly, which causes a crack to open where the plastic cover meets the deck on the top hinge. Result is the sprayed out debris hits the back of the engine and richochets back into my face. Pea-sized piece of gravel hit 1 inch above my eye, causing pretty nice cut. 1 inch lower and I would have lost an eye. This weak spring on the rear discharge port is a serious safety issue that needs corrected. Sears also told me that they will not take the mower back because I already put gas in it. Really? How do you see if the mower works satisfactorily if you don't put gas in it.
I've really had it with Sears. They are going down hill real fast. I have owned 4 craftsman mowers in the past and I loved every one. They ran for years and years til the wheels fall off. Guess I need to shop at the big-box stores for mowers, as much as I hate doing that.
