Used to be Senior Healthcare Consultants (2009), then Apex-Elite (2010), then Lexicon Senior Healthcare (2011), now Buffett Senior Healthcare (2012). It's really the same company run by the same guys running the same scam - all they're trying to do is escape the bad press, which is well documented on the Internet by now. There's plenty of places, here and elsewhere, that have fully documented their scheme - if you have the fortitude to sift through the steaming piles of obvious shilling that alts of their senior management has spread throughout that documentation, feel free to check it out...but if you don't have the patience, then just run - run away, and don't look back.

Over the course of the past week I have discovered and realized a few things about the company. I have also verified these things with other who were in my training class by corresponding with them via email and phone, although they told us in class not to exchange info with each other, which I found to be suspicious, but I did so anyway.

What I have discovered is that the so called preset, triple verified leads are absolute garbage. I have been sent out to extremely rural, economically depressed areas, driving at least an hour each way, and sometimes 2 or 3 hours, where I have to get a hotel room, and it is next to impossible to make the sale since they already have supplemental coverage that they can barely afford as it is, and you are trying to get them coverage that is better, but double what they pay or more.

The only way you are going to make the sale is if you hustle them, and I believe that is why they send you to such areas. The people are poor, uneducated and we are expected to pressure them into signing by using scare tactics and a convoluted sense of urgency since they "qualify today" health wise and they are seniors.

I have now come to realize that the presentation manual they provide us with and teach us is just plain wrong, not to mention unethical and immoral. The basically set up the appointment, i.e., "preset appointment", by using a call center, i.e., telemarketer, and never tell the senior that we are selling anything. They simply tell them that a healthcare consultant will be in their area tomorrow (by the way you don't get your appointments until the night before, so you never know where you are going or even what county out of your initial 3 you will be in on which day), and then ask them if they are aware of the Healthcare Reform happening known as Obamacare. Of course the senior says yes, and then they ask if it would be ok for the consultant to drop by and explain the changes for them. Again they say ok. They then set the time, then tell them to hold on the line and their "manager" will verify the appointment. They ask them a couple of questions that would disqualify them, such as insulin use or oxygen use, etc. If they say yes to any of those they then say, "Ok, thanks for your time. Have a good afternoon", and then they hang up. If they answer no to all the questions they tell them the consultant will be there at such and such time and hang up. Keep in mind, the senior expressed no interest whatsoever in buying any product, nor did they even get told you would be offering any products. They don't leave a number, they don't call back to confirm the appointment, and we are told we are not allowed to ever call the client for any reason, not even if we are running late. We are fined if we do so. This is because they will cancel the appointment if anyone called them to confirm. I cannot tell you how many times I have been instructed to get off their property, that they didn't make an appointment, they don't care or want to talk to me, AND we are charged $20 for EVERY single appointment regardless of if you make a sale, or if you even talk to them, or if they are even home. This is not a preset, verified appointment! It is a trick to get you in their door...a hustle!

IF, and that's a big IF, you get into the home you make small talk with them for a while, get on their good side, then go into your "presentation", i.e., HUSTLE. You begin explaining the changes in Medicare, which are true, but exaggerated, and then begin to show them examples of other companies being sued and fined for patterns of delayed payments, market misconduct, etc. You are making them fearful and can see it in their eyes!

By the way you know which insurance carrier they have ahead of time usually, so you save their carrier for last then show them examples of their company being fined and sued, as well as cancelling policies, etc. Again, making them fearful!!

4 scare tactics used:
1. Coverage - Make them think they have poor coverage, show them they don't have full coverage. (Sometimes true, but nevertheless...making them scared!)
2. Company - Make them believe their company is not a good company to be with by using examples (articles, reports, letters, etc.) that show their other companies being fined and sued for things, then show their company last.
3. Conditionally Renewable - Get them to see that they have a group policy, and show them using random examples that there are not truly guaranteed renewable in a group policy since the entire group can be cancelled.
4. Planning for Life - Show them that are not planning for life due to the above reasons and tie that in with trying to sell them a crappy "Senior Healthcare Partners" discount program for "benefits and services not covered by Medicare or Medigap policies".

We are then expected to close the sale and have them sign without ever mentioning price to them, or even discussing what they can or cannot afford. We are instructed to qualify them and then if they do qualify to GET EXCITED! Jump and down, clap your hands, slap the table, etc, then go into the close... "Ok Mrs. Jones, I am going to take care of everything for you...etc, etc, etc. NOW GIVE ME YOUR MEDICARE CARD!" Then we are told to put our heads down and start writing the policy...don';t say a word. If they give an objection, we acknowledge it agree with it, the FORGET ABOUT IT!. Go back into showing them a summary...where they are, where they want to be, and tell them again how your going to take care of everything, then start filling out app again. AND, we are told to do this as many times as it takes, that only the top 20% of salespeople can do this until they get the sale, that it take at least 5 repetitions to to make 80% of all sales...BUT, they don;t even know how much it will cost!!! This is called HIGH PRESSURE SELLING, but the whole time in training, they kept repeating over and over again, "This is not high pressure selling! If you feel like you are pressuring them, then you are doing it wrong!" Not quite...They live off of social security...period. They are poor. They lives in shacks and trailers, or at best a tiny little home.

For me, this is just not right. I was not raised that way. I have a high level of integrity as well as a good sense of morals and values. If someone did this or even attempted to do this to anyone of my grandparents when they were still alive I would have hunted them down until I found them and then strangle the crap out of them! They teach you to be a sleazeball, conniving, deceitful used car salesman, and all the while somehow convince you that is not what they are doing. They use the "group mentality" against you once you are in training, and over the phone they sell, sell, sell you on the job. Also, I saw with my own eyes in Dallas the "recruiting department", which I know realize is a bunch of 20 somethings getting paid chump change to just get people hooked on a lie. I don't even think they are aware of what they are doing though as I spoke to two of them and they are not the brightest people. They just read a script, just like the "call center".

I do not work that way and I will not work that way. They got over on me for a while because they are very good at selling...at selling you on the job! Any reputable company that has a good name and offers a good, legitimate opportunity does not need to sell you on working there. You want to work their because they have a good reputation, a good name, and offer a good opportunity.

Don't just take my word for it though...do the research yourself.

I worked for this company for a brief time after graduating from college and desperate to find a job in 2011 when it was called Lexicon Senior Health Care.  It was as described above with the supposed set appt. in rural areas three hours from my home.  I even had someone pull a gun on me when I said who I was as I entered their trailer.  I lasted one month but was losing to much money because of no sales or reimbursement.  TODAY- I received a letter from Capital Accounts who has been retained by Apex Elite to collect $360.00 from ME!  They are stealing from seniors and past employees.

Interesting like Chris, I briefly worked for them years ago in 2011. Am thinking 2011 because that is when I changed my bank account after a couple days in the field on the "appointments". I received a letter from Capital Accounts who has been retained by Apex Elite to collect $80.00. I have decent credit in low 700s and a couple days ago got a call from a number that didn't leave a message so I googled it. The capital accounts came up and I was wondering what is in collections since am current on my bills. Am going to dispute it since the company is unethical and didn't want to give them any money. I already paid money for the set up and Dallas training. Interesting I still get the occasion email from them wanting to recruit me.

Thank you for all the comments as I almost scheduled an interview.
What other companies have you had success that actually pay for training? I am interested in the business but unsure of the right company to choose.

All valuable information contained in here and thankful for it as I was just about ready and overly excited to jump into what maybe could have been my final venture.  Asking for money to attend training , or whatever, is always a red flag but I very easily looked past that because I was so sold on the entire package.  Even worse, is the Christianity pitch as a part of their "strong and ethical" standards.  I am in need of employment and this was great.  I am really hurt and highly disappointed as to how low people can go to compromise their integrity.  Thank you all for the valuable information.

Senior Healthcare Consultants and their various AKA's have teamed up with an equally ugly unethical operation called Capital Accounts - a collection agency. I don't owe SHC a dime for leads. However, more than 9 years later Capital Accounts contacted me with a bogus collection demand for lead fees I allegedly owe SHC. Capital Accounts has been continually harassing me with calls. I've advised them to stop and mailed a cease and demand to them as well. I've been keeping a log and have told them as much. I will, at the proper time, flip a mountain of evidence onto one of several law firms that is willing to go after those engaged in illegal and unethical collection tactics. To include times, dates, recorded conversations, alias names (collection people don't use their real names), etc... They've clearly crossed the line into harassment and are in clear violation of federal law, and perhaps laws in my state of residence.

I made it past the first 2 interviews. They INVITED ME FROM CAREERBUILDER.COM.. First interview was a webinar where they even now have WEEKLY PRAYER MEETINGS:: Now this is really really spooky. Cuz folks, im gonna tell you right now, im a christian believer (this isnt a religion debate dont worry), and I must admit I was attracted to that (however I was also leary of it because that basically is just kind of weird, in a vacuum, or you know, in business EVER).  Now that I see this scam blog, I am sad at the prospect that they are targeting people of faith for this "scam". And not just Christians, they never attached any faith to this, they just said "prayer service weekly", so who knows what that is really (ok I won't quote revelations I promise). This is also twice as bad because I NEED A JOB FROM CAREER BUILDER not a scam, and persons of faith will be more apt to follow this scam because of this one small brainwash element. I pray for all of u not to be deceived.

The second interview was a guy who had a really thick accented guy named "Mo" (who is from Egypt it turns out). He was hard to understand, as well he used bullying questions in the interview textbook "name some weaknesses you have" is a bullying technique, as well as putting a person in HR with extremely thick accent...it's a reverse effect making YOU feel illegitimate as "an American" who doesn't have an accent because you aren't bi-lingual or "well versed in the world". This is a subliminal bullying technique to make u feel inferior....why ask yourselves would you put someone who, is hard to understand for  Americans over the phone? They're JOB is to communicate! (and not to offend anyone who has a thick accent...this actually has nothing to do with you please excuse me. It has to do with systematic strategy. When ur a con artist u are on a brainwash non stop understand that. And they are literally just asking for $1,000 at the beginning) The problem actually is the fact these folks who are foreign in this case might not have the best intentions for us as a country and rather relish the notion of getting one over on us...isnt that possible folks?

Lastly. I had the phone call with SMT this afternoon. Thankfully I literally looked this up a few minutes before! I still entertained the phone call, just to confirm the statements on this blog or deny.

The phone call went like this.

Nick Venetis (SMT HR) "hello [small talk small talk]. Your going to have to take extensive notes in this interview....take down the company Moto "...

Me-I wrote down the company motto which was some bs about being economic disaster proof....(when its actually quite the opposite actually its a quick hitter company when/ if the healthcare is reformed from Obamacare).

Nick Venetis--"ok so what does [economic disaster proof] mean to you?"

Me:: Once I started speaking there was a ton of reverb. I actually began to stutter because it was such a distraction...which must've made me sound idiotic on the other end...and they know that I probably am thinking that WHILE I'm talking. I actually stopped talking and said "man there is some serious reverb goin on"

Nick venetis--"oh yeah sorry that's in our end not urs"

Me:::ok so now I'm thinking jeeze "on our end" so I'm on speaker, which is why I hear reverb...or the conversation is being recorded/on a conference line and in another room being listened to currently. In case u didn't know folks, that's possible causes for reverb on a phone call. This is all a mind meld technique as well. Making a person feel dumb as much as possible in the interview...so that when they "decide to give u an opportunity" u feel like u owe THEM.

Nick Venetis HR SMT--"ok so the costs [$300 for insurance license and $1000 for SMT] let me know when u are finished writing that down."

Me:::I had it written down while he was still speaking so I immediately said "I got it"

Nick Venetis---"is that an investment ur prepared to make right now?"

Me:::::"nope" and then I started laughing to be lighthearted...i was expecting a business interview to continue...since I was told to set aside 45 minutes in the middle.of my day for this appointment.

Nick Venetis---"ok thank you for your time, contact us back when u are prepared to make that investment."

He then promptly hung up the phone.

I called Mo back immediately just to be professionally courteous and thank him for the opportunity. Guess what? He already knew I didn't accept the position!! Folks it was UNDER one minute when I called him after this SMT conversation! I'm suggesting there is a high probability, not ONLY IS SMT a synergy move between companies (that much is painfully obvious)--but they might actually physically be in the same office just hitting licks all day triple teaming people in HR. I guarantee you they all split that $1,000...and from the looks.of it, who the heck knows if they ever even want to sell insurance at all. At east these people were motivated to speak with me JUST to get the SMT thing. Thats what I think...anyway, speculation is the same as gambling...the rest is all fact however. God bless, dont be deceived!

Wow! I am so blown away right now! I am a registered nurse and have been recently exploring different career options. Went through CAREERBUILDER and was contacted by Buffett. Spent all day yesterday talking to these guys and was pretty excited yet there was something a little off and I will explain...

I signed up and attended their "live" webinar.  Granted, I am new at the whole interviewing process, especially outside the field of nursing, but I assumed that I would be able to interact with the person conducting the interview and be able to be seen....nope. it was a recorded glorified PowerPoint presentation. The company sounded pretty amazing yet nothing was specifically said about the actual product being sold. This didn't sit well with me but I proceeded on and filled out a questionnaire that lead to someone calling to set me up to interview with "Wilson". This was considered my second interview. The webinar stated that this interview would be conducted by my state territory sales manager. This is where things get fishy....

I'm from Mississippi so I'm assuming I will be talking to someone local. I'm intelligent and consider myself well-spoken despite my southern accent but I could barely understand "Wilson" who had a very heavy foreign accent that I couldn't pinpoint. My appointment to interview with him was set for 1pm today, yet he contacted me at 3:30pm yesterday. This was only 15 minutes after scheduling the interview. He then thought I was from Wisconsin and I had to tell him where I was located. This was my state territory manager? He apologized for calling me later since our appointment was for earlier stating he was actually on vacation. This was strange since I had made the appointment for today. Long story short, I axed the interview and was contacted by Nick Venetian to schedule my third interview that is not even with Buffet but with a completely non affilliated training company (right.....) that you are required to attend and pay tuition to named SMTA. I could actually understand Nick which was a plus though. So now have third interview scheduled for Dec. 23.

Well, I get curious last night and start doing some web searching and can't find anything from Buffett that actually reaches out to their customer base and explains their actual products. The only thing that their website does is try to sell the job opportunity. I was under the impression that companies had to actually have a product to sell to hire salesman.

I then ran across your post Mr. Beckett. It all came together "Wilson" is actually Mo! Lol. Even called the number back that he called me from on "vacation" and I was transferred to office of MOhommad such and such! This is crazy! There are other details but just the fact that your experience was the same as mine yet they used different names is insane! How are they legally able to conduct this fraudulent business? I do plan to have my interview with Mr. Venetis and have a little fun with this situation. That is unless the same people who are planting the positive reviews reads this and cancels my interview! Thanks for the post Mr. Beckett. You confirmed my suspicions!

    help is on the way
For any of you that feel taken advantage of by this unethical company or companies. Help is on the way but they need your help to ensure this company gets shut down. You all need to email randy.waters@tdi.texas.gov your story. Whether its a collections account or worse make sure to send the email. Randy Waters is the fraud enforcement officer with the Texas Department of Insurance. He needs to hear your story on how evil this company or companies are. Maybe together we can close their doors forever.

    need your help
Lets shut these guys down. Anyone who has worked for them can complain to their State Department of Insurance. Especially if you were sent to collections by a company you never worked for. The more complaints the better opportunity we have to shut them down. The upper management staff is even perpetrating fraud against some of the seniors you legitimately sold business to by putting policies on them without the seniors knowledge. We dont need people like them in this business. Now is the time. Contact your state. File your complaint.

False employment scams can happen online, by phone or in person. Some scammers post fake job notices on
legitimate job-matching websites and some have met and interviewed job seekers in public places. In all cases,
the job seeker received promises of employment and a request for some type of up-front payment.
